I agree that breathing of an engine can change all that stuff. However, the entire exhaust is stock except for the downpipe. Do you really think that changes how the exhaust breathes? The stock cat-back is a bottleneck, and IMO shouldn't change the way it breathes, much... I asked the service manager this question, and he agreed that because the old exhaust is a bottleneck, it shouldn't be causing the issue.

Update: They are replacing the MAF again, so we'll see what happens in 4 months. Should get the car back this afternoon.

to the guys who are saying its the MAF sensor :

Why don't you explain to me, in technical detail, how the MAF sensor can cause TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE. ???

I understand that it would cause power cuts, jerkiness, even possibly shifting problems and other things, but explain to me how the MAF would cause *transmission slippage* issues.

Thanks.

It's because the car goes into some sort of stupid *** safe mode. It seems strange as hell, but seriously as SOON as that SES light came on, the tranny started slipping. Once the MAF is replaced, it doesn't have the problem anymore.

Trust me. Being that I already replaced it once, I can vouch that it's the issue. Also, the techs at the dealer have confirmed that that's what happens when the P1235 code gets throws on SST equipped cars.

Why haven't you demanded that the dealership return the car to stock since that's what you wanted in the first place and they sold you a modded car? Seems like it wouldn't be that much work for them (maybe two days tops if they broke every bolt) and then if it still threw codes you could move past the downpipe as a source of the problem.

I've certainly considered it. Actually, that was my plan if they were to say to me "We feel that the aftermerket downpipe is what's causing the problem"

Well, crap. It seems that the problem is now officially NOT the MAF.

Just went and picked up the car on my way home from work, drove off the lot, sat in some traffic before getting on the freeway. Car was nice n not, and I had given it a few nice hard pulls in 2nd gear with no issues. Shifts were smooth and everything. Then I got on the freeway, accelerated up to 65, merged, then got down into 4th and smashed the gas. Just before I was about to shift into 5th, the clutch slipped, RPMs jumped, and the SES light came on again. I immediately turned around and drove back to the dealer. I grabbed the service manager and took him for a quick ride so that SOMEONE could feel what this thing was doing. He's convinced now that since it's not the MAF, that it's likely the PCM that needs to be replaced, so that's what's going to happen next.

I still have a feeling that the transmission is not the problem, though I can't completely erase it from my memory. Could be freaking anything at this point!

Another thing to mention. Every time this has happened, it's been raining. However, back in June, we had our second rainiest month on record for Denver. I never had a single problem in June. Today is is cold , and just barely snowing. 34 degrees when I started the car.

More updates to come as I get em!

seriously there's nothing wrong with the car ..its doing what its supposed to be doing .. I SAID its getting cold ..

Every little bit of 'improvement' to the breathing of the engine WILL affect or trigger this code ..

you're welcome to grab a copy of the rom I posted on the other forums and have a go at it yourself .. its a simple fix ..

P1235 is the overboost code. It throws the car into one of two limp modes. In one, it will idle at 2krpm and be "ok" to drive, but it'll guzzle gas. The other mode makes it impossible to drive and the rpms will cycle wildly.

This normally happens for a couple reasons:
- too high boost set with either an MBC or a tune

Well, that's really the only reason .

Is there a competent tuner in your area? Or do you have a tactrix cable? I'm willing to bet that there's a tune on your car and it's not right without the other mods.

ETA: gunzo knows what he's talking about, listen to him. Up there in Denver, it's getting damn cold and you're going to be seeing lots of boost spikes which will throw this code.

They probably get a rebate or kick-back at the end of the year for a lower amount of warranty claims.

.
Thats a common misconception

It just telling you there's a mismatch airflow

Overboost will cause this because the mismatch is glaring but its not the main reason

Hakmeister - do a google search for evo x ecu flash maps .. I wa told it pops up as the top search list

this board doesn't allow me to post other websites http .. it comes up as ****

mitsu sucks... just explain you brought the car with the mods, they are dicks when it comes to warranty work, but keep on to them and they will do it..... Good luck

I had Mitsu check the ECU. It has never been flashed. Besides, they were looking for ANY reason to void the warranty. The day I had the initial problem, it wasn't cold. Was about 70 degrees out. The second time, it was probably 60, and raining.

There is one very competent tuner, but why in the world would I flash the car in its current state, especially since they're looking for any reason to void my warranty?

Again, the first two times I had this problem, it wasn't cold. the very first time I had the issue, I wasn't even in this state. It doesn't have any correlation to temperature. However, every time I have had the problem, it's been wet out.

Also, how exactly does a downpipe, and nothing else, increase the breathing? Remember, stock manifold, stock cat-back, aftermarket downpipe. When you have the bottleneck of the stock cat-back system, how does that improve breathability aside from the extra volume in the pipe itself?

It impacts the sensor readings. doesn't matter if total airflow is exactly the same, move a sensor around and the readings will change. the ecu doesn't know the actual airflow, it just knows what it's sensors are telling it, and making decisions based on those readings.

Just tell them to take off the damn downpipe and stop wasting your time.
