Question about the 3M protective coating
Question about the 3M protective coating
I just ordered a set of Rally Armor flaps, and I'm considering getting some of the impact zones wrapped in the 3m paint protection stuff. But a few questions to people who have it installed...
If its not installed over an entire panel, can you tell where the coating ends? IE is the edge visible or does it alter the color at all?
How does it look after a good washing and wax? Does it give a two-tone feel at all when compared to the unprotected areas?
Any issues with it coming off prematurely?
Thanks guys!

You can definitely see the line and if you look closely, the color is slightly different as well.
This is why I didn't get the clear film for my car. And that's the reason I can't complain about my rock chips. Oh well.

ah, I see it. Yea, its not too bad over a small spot, but it would probably look bad over a large area. Does anyone have any close up pics of the film installed over the area in question? Sorry if its posted somewhere already, but the search doesn't work for pictures
Honestly when I first got it put on the bumber, hood, and rear panels I had to double check to see if they actually put it on. It still isn't noticeable when the car is clean. When it's dirty you can see the lines because dirt accumulates. If you don't wax them on a regular basis they can discolor. It's pretty easy to replace though and the paint underneath will always be the brand new pigmented water that Mitsubishi sprayed on these cars.

When the car is clean I can barely see the line on the hood and I have GG. You just have to make sure you use a wet q-tip to clean the edges of the 3M film every once in awhile which makes it even less noticeable.

I can't see mine unless I'm staring at the hood....only place really noticeable. I got the side skirts, a-pillars, half hood, front bumper, front fenders and side view mirrors done. I should have gotten the front part of the roof done.....the touch up paint is ugly.
