Does a check engine light affect performance?

I have a no cat check engine light that I can't get rid of! I have the megan racing single drift exhaust and we tried everything and it still throws a code. Does anyone out there have a solution for me? I also want to know if the light is on does the ecu pull timing or anything? Thanks...

See Tuning forums. You can disable it in ecuflash.

I bought the AMS spacer but still haven't installed it. Threw the car up on jack stands and couldn't loosen the damn bolt on the sensor. What an unsuccessful mission that was. Once I get her up on a lift I'll let you know how the AMS one works.
