Mysterious rear seat burning?
Woh! I'm glad to be the first that found the problem.
If any representative from mitsu is reading this, I’m available to properly document the issue thru physical inspection at any dealer around my area.
i cover allready all the floor and backseats area with a termo shield carpet, it's working great! but it's easy to remove and see the preview burns

I checked mine today, low and behold there seems to be some heat transfer on the passenger side towards the back of the seat where the foam started to melt into the black sound deadener. I applied some DEI Cool tape on the foam as that's all I had handy and left the seat loose so I could check the temps of that area after a spirited drive. This may have occured during my driving at Watkins Glen Road Course during warmer temps, it would be hard to believe that it was caused recently with the 40-50 F air temps we've had lately.
Looking under the car at that spot, it's well past the catback flange connection and somewhere above the midpipe. There are heat shields on the floorboards so I'm not sure how that much heat is getting up to the seats. I'll upload my pictures tonight when I get a chance.

take a pic of the underneath of the car so everyone can see how close it is etc to the body... for some reason I dont think the exhaust is going to get hot enough that far backstream to cause the foam inside to burn like that through metal.
It looks to me that maybe the sound deading had transferred to part of the foam... it looks like the deading is tar based.

Greddy Ti-C here....same results, burnt seat.
After all these recalls, tsb's and now this I'm really considering a 335xi. I'm just about fed up with my $40k Mitsu. I really, really wanted to love the car but it seems like i have nothing but problems with it. Hopefully after I get all these things fixed I can start to enjoy it but for right now it's just a PITA
