Equal parts styrofoam and gasoline... but not sure if the gas just straight up dissolves it into the napalm goop or if you have to do something to it... there's no way this is happening though lol, don't worry about your back seats cooking up napalm.

Wow, my friends always tell me about the back seat getting really hot and Ive always noticed a burning fabric smell since I bought the car. And, my friend took his back seat out to clean it, and he told me it was burned.

I have stock exhaust.

wtf is going on? This sounds like a recall worthy problem to me.

To the OP you really need to change your opening post with the new info that it is not due to single exhausts but even the stock setup. Unless you read through this entire thread you might think that only the AMS single tip causes this issue when that is clearly not the case.

Petroleum jelly (Vasoline) + Gasoline = Napalm

Styrofoam = expanded ploystyrene

Took the car for the dealer to see. They had not seen this as of yet, nor had the regional tech manager. Pictures were taken and are being sent off to Mitsu. Will let you know what they report back with.

The Service Manager did Google it though and said it was plastered all over the internet so it was just new to them.

^^ We are going to need a few more people than me to go show Mitsu. If you have this issue, please go let your service department take a picture of it. Or at least let them know of the issue.

Especially those of you who are stock and have this issue!!

I would have to agree, perhaps a moderator can adjust that a bit. No reason to blame AMS single exhausts for causing this. At best any exhaust is adding some extra heat to that area as it rises up under the car, couple that with a hot day over blacktop and inside temps rising pretty high and there may be some sort of accelerated chemical reaction that occurs with heat and maybe even pressure when someone is sitting in the seats.

I bought a new evo couple weeks ago and has only 500 miles on it right now, but for the heck of it, I pulled up the back seat today and found fresh new paint with no burn mark anywhere. I hoping someone can figure out the cause before I get those burn marks. If not, I might consider putting heatshield under the seat.

Likely just about any type of heat shield material to seperate the foam seats from the tar like substance will work just fine for that.

Have you had anyone ride in the back passenger seat yet?

I bought some DEI heat material from Advance Auto Parts for 20 bucks. Comes in a sheet 1'x2'. Just stuck it on the seat for now while Mitsu looks at the pictures.
