Gauge illumation question

Ok well up to this point I am yet to see someone wire their gauges to the stock cluster so that they dim when the stock gauges are dimmed. (AEM gauges come with a gray wire that Is meant to be wired into your stock cluster so that they dim when you press your dimmer button) Is it because this is a very difficult process? Or have people done this and I just have missed it? Any Advice/PICTURES/help is greatly appriciated.

assisted in installing some gauges in an srt4 neon and opted not to use the dimmer because you couldnt see the gauges during the day (cheep gauges) so i would find an easy way to test them to see what u think.

Well the Gauges are AEM Analog gauges, so I dont think they are cheap, and my wallet agrees ... anyways, I will probably just not use the dimmer wire unless anyone can for sure tell me where to run it.

visual inspection. both the manual adjuster and the asc switch have illumination. the only wires that are similar are grounds and the illumination wire. figuring out what the negative wire is, is standard issue. then i'm just left with the positive illumination wire.

*UPDATE* For All you who are using an illumination wire for your gauges, tapping the green/white wire behind your asc switch will cause your gauges to illuminate more brilliantly when your lights are turned on, However, this wire does not dim your gauges when your dimmer button is pushed below your gauge cluster. (However this still does its job by making your gauges brighter at night, and I settled for it as it does suffice for the functionality of the wire)... Will post a how-to on Illuminating gauges sometime soon.

I have been scouring for a wire to use for AEM gauge illumination. So many people are point to on/off wires that actually work in the reverse way that AEM wants. AEM should have dim (low volt) during night time with headlights on and should be bright during daytime with head lights off (high volt). At night, why would you want your gauges blinding you?

I guess everyone just leaves the gauge at full 12V brightness, but I have to imagine there is somewhere to tap on the wires that changes in voltage based on dimming the lights!

easy solution for your problem - 34$ Dimmer made by autometer sold at summit or amazon. This can also be used if like myself, you are running Autometer C2s and they are obscenely bright or if you don't like dimming your speedo and such to blackout in order to dim the gauges. It's a 5 minute install!
