A little help with switching my upgrade

Ok so I am currently running a AMS short ram intake with AMS upper and lower intercooler piping. Due to the Hawaii weather I am thinking of going with a AMS CAI, but since the cone goes in front of the trans cooler I am not sure about it. Will this cause my SST to run hotter? And of course the rain is the other reason I am not sure about going with this route.

I am also thinking about removing the AMS short ram and lower intercooler pipe and putting the stock intake and lower intercooler pipe back in. The reason for this is to run a HKS drop-in. My question on this is will I lose power by placing the stock lower intercooler pipeback in?

My whole reason behind is because when I am not driving on the highway my AP is always saying my intake temp is somewhere between 133-161. Which I believe might be robbing me from a few more hp.

so you added boltons and you wanna take them off? Of course you're gonna lose power. Maybe you should look into meth injection for cooling. You could stick with 50/50 meth/water.

the lower inter cooler piping will not make you gain or lose any power on the evo 10,and you might lose about 2-5 whp removing the short ram and putting an hks dropin

The AMS CAI is a add on to the short ram but what I am worry about this upgrade is that the cone is in front of the trans cooler. From what I read the drop-in are just as good as the full intakes on the X.

I guess I wasted my money on the lower pipe then. From what I saw so far people have seen from 10-16 on drop-in. I really don't know what the gain on a full intake are.

I am just trying to figure out a way to drop my intake air temps. It might be me but 133-161 is kind of high.

If your looking for a drop-in, get Cosworth. If your worried about your intake temp, why not upgrade both your radiator and fmic?

I was thinking about going with a bigger FMIC but I dont think my AP stage 2 will react good to it and there is no tuner on the island. Did I mention that shipping and handling is crazy high here.

Don't believe those numbers from drop-ins and intakes. They just lean out the crap tune from . Once you get a tune that number is gone and you can make the same amount of power with the stock airbox. I don't think you would lose much power from either.

BTW, how good of a dropin is the HKS? A few people have had stuff tear up their turbo or getting crap in their engine and they (from what I remember) had an HKS. I wouldn't think it had anything to do with it just remember seeing a few posts like that with HKS's and thinking .

O yea and get some water-wetter(SP?). I think thats what it is called. It is supposed to really lower the temps of the engine.

I haven't heard this...I guess I am going to have to ask the google man on this. I don't want to put something in my vehicle that is going to do more harm than good. Thanks for the heads up.

Update: Took out the AMS intake and installed the stock intake. The Evo is running much better now! It is pulling harder and intake temps drop down from 140-160 to 70-90.

A cai on a turbo car is a waste of money in my opinion get a short ram and a bigger intercooler + tranny cooler.

Yes the CAI is not a good option on your MR. While it may lower your intake temps it WILL cause your SST to overheat.

I have an HKS PF and have had no problems with it, car runs great.
