50,000 Miles and what I think of my X
Sounds GREAT
I have had 6 new cars over 4 years....Kia Sedona, Subaru Tribeca, Subaru Legacy Turbo, 09 Mitsubishi Outlander among them.
The only car in that group to be trouble free (after 60K miles) was the Kia! The Outlander had a fan replaced for the A/C., but his otherwise doing well at 30K.
An Evo is a HARD riding car and rattles need to be chased down or ignored. Every other problem you list is typical to a LOT of cars. My buddies 2 year old M3 has FAR more and worse issues. Sports cars of this type WILL HAVE ISSUES.
If you didn't know that then you didn't do your homework. The list of issues with your car is pretty good for a car of this type. Many can be easily handled by warranty. Clutch issues are VERY hard to listen to. I hear it all the time. I babied my car, but the clutch went at 40K. Then you see the person drive and realize they do a lot of partial clutching and hill-holding/reving. Your clutch may only need an adjustment.
The paint is a drag, but an issue now with a LOT of cars. Oddly, the paint on my 09 Outlander is doing great, yet takes a lot of abuse.
Lights on a car are usually not a big issue, but if they are all going at the same time, take the car in. Keep up with taking care of the car, but keep in mind that this is an ECONOMY sports car with most of the money not going into high-end fit and finish. You paid for world class handling in a AWD car first and foremost. The next step in such a design is the GT-R, but that's a lot of scratch for better seat staples.
Best of Luck,
Rob

sounds like you need to take care of the problems as they happen. only problem ive had so far (17k miles) was the seat staple thing and that took about 20 min to fix up. as far as rattling goes, only thing so far was my glove box but i fixed that with rubber stops. just put a bit of time into your car and stop complaining. theres nothing majorly wrong with the car from what you said so suck it up and stop nit picking
it's so much more than just the engine. example that you just use: hyundai genesis coupe 2.0t. It's 22k and RWD and uses the same base engine as the evo. Yet its also built like crap and doesn't perform nearly as well. but its cheaper! you get what you pay for.
Want something built better? Get a BMW 328i. It's slow, its boring, but its reliable and somewhat luxurious with good build quality. but the price is the same! See how that works? Its called a trade-off. For the price, you have to make compromises. the evo is no exception.
and are you really saying that kia and hyundia have more brand respect than mitsu? wow

[QUOTE=Varrius;7539626]True.
However, when you get into the MR model and its price out the door is nearing 50k, you start to wonder, is it for suckers? The MR should offer quality for its price.QUOTE]
that is what really bothers me too.. the trany is the main difference in the MR they should have done more for the 50k+ price..

lol
I think it's great that you guys love your cars despite the little gremlins they have - it's a little different on the business side though. Like I said, Mitsu is really not concerned with the die hards.
This post
Proves it. It's about expanding their business, period. And, this has nothing to do with the previous gen evos.. As I recall the 03 VIII had probably just as many problems as the X, and just as many die hards who didn't care. The market they're going for, however, is quite different. I honestly expected to see a lot more of this kind of post, with new guys comin in from bmws and whatnot complaining about how crappy mitsubishi quality is..
But, if you want to make a post like that, take it to the X vs IX thread

Uh, what "more" do you want other than a different badge on the hood?
True.

I gotta say the X dont sound to great but not every car is gonna come off the factory floor build 100% identical some are gonna have some issues especially since its the first year they are out..
I have an 03 mitsue 81k on it.. They were told to be the mystery evo as transfercase would go or they wouldnt.. With 81k My tcase is bone stock no whining or nothing only have had it serviced once since 60k. Did all the maitenece and the car runs beautiful to this day and I still havnt gotten time to have it tuned.
As far as bulbs burning im still running the same bulbs that were installed in the car from the factory!
the paint I do agree is ****ty from the factory but nothing some polishing cant fix.
I did have to replace the trans at 76k the gears were fine but a bolt got lodge and put a hole in the case after a clutch install..
Other then that car still runs great and maybe you just got one of the bad ones..

This proves it, a bunch of you 8 & 9 guys come over here and start tearing the X down in any and every thread possible! I've never been one to post lies, look at the numbers the X speaks for it's self! Each EVO shines in other area's the previous EVO's haven't, the only reason I posted about the X being better than the 9 (stock for stock) was due to comments being dropped by others who were once again "tearing the X down"! I never adventure into the 8 and 9 boards for the simple fact (the 8 and 9 are old news)! For those of us who own them, more power to you! Never have I and never will I come to your board and whip my EVO X's dong out and expect you to kiss it! I own an X and will stay where I belong! I don't have time to hate on other people cars, as I like the 9 and all the rest! GROW UP!
This is a consumer and enthusiast forum. "Stay where I belong?" This is where I belong. I can't make my research and make my comments and express my opinion? What the hell is this? I don't expect you to "kiss it" and I've even personally expressed my own opinion that I think the X is an overall better car. What the hell is this? I did not "hate on the X." If you're not comfortable with people talking about issues they have with your car perhaps you're the one who should grow up.
I actually think the 08 EVO X as pretty solid for a first year run of a completely new performance vehicle. Look at all the issues with the 370Z and it's 6-speed transmission failures and the fact that it's a performance car that you can't track because of the oil temperature issue (google 370Z oil temperature issue and you will see plenty of evidence). Lot's of other complaints as well such as interior rattles and poor clutch pedal feel.

OK so you pay 50K for a car.. that price means that you are not buying an econo box, you are paying more for higher quality and better performance.. if mitsu can achieve that then they should cap their offerings at 23K..
Why are kia and hyundia getting better press and better sales and buz?? because they made dramatic improvements in product offering, kept prices low improved marketing quality - all while mitsu was dropping the ball...
After the first fast and furious every one wanted a 99 eclipse and was looking forward to what mitsu was gona do to deliver a new hotter model but mitsu decided that they did not want to be seen as the makes of cool fast hip cars, so they vive us the 2000 ugly heavy none turbo model eclipse..lol years later they realise they are dead to the public so they try to bring the EVO to the front of their roster... Price is too high (public does not understand value of suer fancy AWD system) and to average joe which is who they want to buy, the car looks too similar to the low end lancer

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know my opinion on my Ariel Atom after breaking 50k miles. First off, the thing is TRASH! I mean, the AC doesn't even work! And when it's raining, I can't even get the windows to go up! For $65,000 they could have at least put in decent AC and automatic windows! And when you're driving, you can hear so much road noise that I can't talk on my cellphone while driving! And to make matter worse, in the past 3 months, I had to put gas in it TWICE! THATS RIDICULOUS! ITS A $65,000 CAR FFS! /wrist
