May have to sell the X :-(

Well guys, I got married on the 19th and my new wife and I have been looking at building a house, but it seems that my 516.00 a month payment may be a bit to much, so I am considering selling it after a few more months of payments since the selling prices aren't that high for the X's right now, as of Oct I will owe 26,9. I have thought of everything that I could possibly do... even a refinance, which would be stupid since I have 0%, but that would at least drop the payment.

So, I have started to think of other cars that I could get.. whether new or used, but in great condition and i'm not to sure of what to go for. If I can pay another 6 months or so I could refinance for 72 months since my credit is good and maybe get a pretty decent rate, but I may be better off buying someone elses X that has a few more miles on it for a lower price. I'd like to try to keep the AWD since it always comes in handy so a used STI could be possible, I didn't want to go the IX route, not because I don't love the car, but the safety rating is just horrible with them and i'm not putting my wife in any sort of risk... it has to at least have better than average safety.

I've also thought of going to route of a lightly damaged car of some sort and then just fixing it myself.

Anyway, just looking for some ideas on something that could get me around 400.00 a month or maybe even less.

Any other cars in mind? Doesn't HAVE to be AWD, but it would be nice.

The difference between building a house and keeping your current car vs.. building a house and getting another car is $115/month ... sounds like you stretching a bit thin... or you could just drop the $2 coffe every day =$60/month and pack a lunch to work will get you another $60/month problem solved....

I guess what i'm saying is a net savigs of $120 a month is not a whole lot.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't buy coffee, I don't buy anything everyday like that... 120.00 isn't the end of it though.. the insurance would also go down, repair costs would go down.. I have to think about the big picture here. 120.00 is a cell phone bill, a trip to the grocery store, a months or more worth of gas... it's a lot more than it seems.

I agree with the non-turbo Subaru idea, if you are looking at sedans. I had a `96 Impreza LS for 6 years and it was a decent car. I thought about getting a 2.5 RS as a winter beater (they are under 10k).

yeah.. the OP is right. Buying a car involves a lot of things, gas, insurance and payments and maintenance. An evo depends on insurer's age can go up to 200+ a month for full coverage. Also it drinks a lot of gas (premium) And don't talk about how bad the money pit it is. It can cost you 1000 dollars a month conservatively.

IMO if you want to sell, sell it ASAP. The longer you wait, the lower the price the car is. It is almost the end of the year, next spring 08 evo x will be come a 2-3 year old car depends on when you bought yours. The price will drop faster than you believe; it's a car, not an investment.

i agree with just sell the X and buy a cheap beater for now like the subbie. its not worth trying to balance an expensive car with an expensive purchase like a house.

Outlander all the way, it's posts good numbers is fuel efficient and is super safe! Or you could go with a Raider, their cheap and also post positive numbers esp. when it comes to mpg's. If you like the AWD also check into a Endeavor, their fast nimble and reliable! The Legacy is a good choice too, even the base model WRX... Look into the caliber SRT-4, they have decent numbers and tons of incentives/rebates (or did).

If i were you i would get a used rsx type-s they are going for about 9000-12000 its a very good car with a very good safety rating, good on gas, and with some bolt ons its decent.

I did the math on a car that is $10k cheaper and gets 30-40 mpg. It has regular old 40k mile tires and brakes that last for a long time etc. With the difference in fuel and payment, it was going to be like maybe $300 or $350 a month cheaper, although extending my payments for two years. My payment is also about 5 bills, but I owe less than you so I would actually have a down payement on the next car. without that, I'd get a $5000 car to run around in for 18 months.

On the other hand, you're gonna be house poor for the first couple of years so keep the evo and figure a way to to increase your income about $200-$300 per month w/ a part time gig.
