Only worry about it if you have an unwrapped tubular manifold. If you have a cast manifold with OEM heatshield you have nothing to worry about.

From the AMS website

Product Notes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The AMS EVO X Turbo Kit is NOT COMPATIBLE with the black plastic valve covers found on some 2008-09 and all 2010 models. Aftermarket turbo systems create more heat that can cause the plastic cover to melt, distort or even in some severe cases cause a fire. AMS REQUIRES that all Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X’s run the aluminum valve cover found on most 2008-09 EVO’s (part number 1035A810) when installing an AMS EVO 10 Turbo kit. This part is available to you at our cost in the drop down options menu below. Please physically verify your cover is not the black plastic version prior to ordering.

See, I told you guys! Eric gave me the info directly after he said the plastic one started to melt when they were testing on the Kids with Cancer Evo X in the Fall. They ended up swapping in a metal one off their shop car so there would be no delays on delivery. That's what I call a great shop, too bad Mitsu made it a pain for 2010+ Evo owners who want to go beyond the factory setup.

Can anyone confirm that the above part# will lend you the the aluminum valve cover instead of the new "possible" plastic replacement?

Thanks,

MvP

You should be able to get one from a 08 and swap that in.

Can you just run without any cover at all? Looks like just an engine dress up piece that has no function.

When you lift up the plastic Engine Cover, you will see a Valve Cover underneath it. On 2010 cars and newer the Valve Cover is a composite (plastic). On older cars its the traditional metal.
