Before I drove the car off the lot today, I pulled off the MIVEC red/black cover...eeeek!
I had an '08 X, so was expecting the South Coast Mitsu detailers 'debadging,' and my removal of the plastic 'engine cover' to be my first mods.
Well of course the 08 valve cover will fit a 2010. Everyone has their own opinions but there are far better first mods than changing out the valve cover.

You're old fashioned, but ended up with a heavy, expensive Japanese rice rocket powered by a 2.0L engine with a turbocharger strapped to it?

You're not old fashioned

if people are that worried about the plastic one, OEM 08 valve cover goes for ~$240

Thumbs down Yeah, I'm "old fashioned..." wtf

Why are you even on an Evo X topic if your going to trash the X?

I have a IX tuned by Sean Ivey at about 650hp, and have owned everything from 2 Audi RS4's...to a 1937 Hispano Suiza J-12, American Iron of mine is documented in Hot Rod. Never judge someone's personal preferences in automobiles, there's enough room for everyone to have their own likes.

And yes, I like the metal valve cover...

I see you even have a X, yet you call it names...???

Really... so you've seen a 2010 Evo's plastic valve cover fail? Or lose power over the aluminum version?

It's a valve cover... you'll get over it.

It's not plastic. It's composite.

As mentioned, I was just calling the car what it is. It's an expensive, large, Japanese built rice rocket. I love it for what it is, it's a step up above my Evo 8 and STi, but it is what it is. All I was saying is "old fashioned" and "buying an Evo X" don't go hand in hand. "Old fashioned" people don't buy Evo X's.

For all of the Evo X's problems, some glaring (lol notchy gearbox on a sports car!) some not (lol dash rattle!) picking "plastic valve cover" as a complaint is like picking "a zit" as a complaint on a woman with a *****.

Cool

I love all wheel drive turbo cars...always have... I have always loved all cars!
Based on my previous Evo X GSR, that Sean and I worked on quite a bit...
I knew what I was getting into. I wanted the SST because I have to drive my kids in and out of the city, and my 9 and STI were becoming bear's to maintain, and drive in traffic. I guess I'm getting older! I'm 47.

I've had all the light high performance cars, the old hot rods, the custom cars, the european classic cars, the daily performance cars...etc...etc.. I just want something that I can tinker with, and drive without looking like a RICH *******, which I'm not anymore, but could have been called at different times in my life.

I once had a '74 IROC 3.0 Porsche RSR, look that up, that's not a heavy car!

I love tinkering with cars, modifying them, and if I want to get a powdercoated alloy valve cover for this car, it's just one more thing to give me pleasure doing...

xo

I know there is no performance lost from the plastic cover. I would just like a powder coated valve cover like our 8/9 brothers. Is that too much to ask?

Outboard engine use as well plastic cover, Mercury 200HP Verado Supercharged:

Engine felt back on the valve cover and it didn't break it! I will say it look stronger than what you guys might think.

P.s: I didn't drop the engine, dealer didn't do his job properly and came back to HQ in that way...

Nice post! Cool.
Outboards have been hidden for (almost) ever...unless you include the British Seagull.

I believe it's strong. Stronger than alloy, sure... I just like to see the engine, and when I took the plastic engine cover off, I was a bit disappointed.

No biggie now, I've accepted it.
