Driving in the rain?
Has anyone with a stock EVO X GSR (or MR) ever driven in the rain for any substantial period of time? Have you had the misfiring, stumbling, etc yet? If so, how long of driving, how much rain, and how long did symptoms take to clear up? Also, did you get a check engine code?
This is the 4th time it has happened. I live in South Louisiana where we get a good bit of rainfall and I rarely drive my car in the rain, but everytime I have gotten on the interstate and driven in a pretty good rain or even just a rainy road where other cars are picking up the "mist" for more than about 30 minutes the car will buck/ hesitate / stumble like crazy the next time you hit the gas even as light as trying to go over an overpass. It will actually continue to "choke up" the car for quite a while after the rain! It feels like the airbox is picking up water and when any significant airflow is demanded (aside from just straight cruise) it will choke the AFM (my theory). This will continue until 15-30 minutes AFTER the rain has stopped and after I have clear road ahead of me. My car is 100% stock and even has the stock airfilter. I have experienced this 4 times and and each time it is associated with the rain.
Scary thing is it's SO bad that the car bucks and coughs and spits from the misfire, but it has NEVER thrown a check engine light yet! Very strange and I figured I would ask if anyone else has experienced this.

yup been there
i live in missouri and more than once i have had that problem on my car it is the vent in the hood on the driver side that is letting water run down in to my air intake i have been looking for a vent that is solid like on the passanger side vent
The same thing used to happen in my 1997 VW Gti. Especially on a very wet day if it makes sense, when it would be a lot of moisture in the air, misty humid type of weather. If I would accelerate a little more than just normal the car would display the check engine light. I had it checked and all the dealer told me back in 1999 is that it was something due to the air intake. They couldn't explain it more. I just think that it is because very humid air is not as combustible and that is why the car acted the way it did it miss fires due to high water to air molecule ratio in such weather. Just my crazy theory.

Yes I did notice something like this once. No codes either.
A couple months ago I drove to NC from FL for a family function. On the way back home to FL, it literally rained the whole trip down the eastern coast (via I-95). The car actually ran alright, and idled fine. But what I noticed is after stopping for gas, when I got back on the highway, if I gave the car too much throttle, it seemed to buck and hesitate a little. It was not the gas because I filled up 3 times on the trip home.
After the first time I found myself checking under the hood every stop to make sure all the vacuum lines were in place. Nothing was out of place.
After getting home, the car was fine the next morning.
It could be MAF related. But there are too many unknown factors to pin point the issue. In fact I haven't encountered the issue since then, and it rains fairly frequently in FL.

yep it happened to me too, I drove my GSR for an hour in the rain in I-95, when i change to a lower gear and step on the gas pedal, the engine choke in between 5000-6000 rpm. and this is happen in my 3rd and 4th gear. when i stop for a bathroom brake. I even check all the vacuum lines and nothing coming loose. next morning nice and sunny day, I did red line all gears, nothing happen!!!!!

Ive driven through torrential downpours in Southern states, hard falling snow in below freezing tempratures, and freezing rain.
Have over 25,000 miles on the car, much of it highway.
Have never experienced this-

I had an issue in June when it was raining for like a whole month every once in a while my MAF would short and had to restart the car and the problem was gone. Then again to say there was alot of water is an understatement, 30 days in June like 27 were rain.
Could there be a cut in your spark plug wires somewhere...sounds electrical for sure....
Only other time I have seen anything like this is when either the intake or Intercooler has water and the cold water vapor hits the MAF causing weird air metering...

Well I don't know if this has happened to any one else but my first and second automated carwash the car died when the water turned on. After that I replaced the intake and haven't had that problem since
There is definitely something wrong here that needs to be fixed. The last post, jkx63 provides some possibilities to simulate rain conditions which could be tested on your car. I would try soaking the engine bay from below first and then the top just to see if you can duplicate the results. If successful, go to the dealership to document the problem...then leave it to them to fix it.
