Help me convince my wife

As of right now i own an 02 wrx with some basic mods. I dont race/rally/autocross or anything. some spirited driving from time to time but thats all. I want to get a new car and because i used to own a 2.3l stroked talon, i naturally want an evo x now. she is saying no because she wants me to get a "more grown up car". She says i dont need a rally type car cause we have a 3 year old and a 6 year old. We live in CT and i want AWD because of the winters. She thinks i should get a maxima or related family car. I said if i dont get an evo i want a caddy CTS.

Help me convince her that i should get an evo x. I would rather have her agreeing with me then me just show up with it one day and deal with her being mad for a while.

Dealing with "the woman"gets into an area where most fear to tred. That said, UR argement for AWD is right on especially when she has the two children buckled up in a "four door family sedan" that is a 4cyc (greener than a six or eight) with gas mileage in the mid 20's hwy and has front, side impact air bags....the turbo need not be addressed here.... AND there is that snow storm...does she want to get a car that will leave her and the family stranded on some hwy!????..get my point? Good luck with the word smithing.

Later, Ken

From experience, you are definitely better off agreeing before rather than seeking forgiveness later. Of course if you have a WRX now, the primary differences to focus on would be safety improvements. I was very fortunate this time, since while I was debating back and forth on whether or not to do it now my wife argued that I should.

What kind of car does your wife drive?

I could see you getting an Evo would be an issue for her if she's currently driving a junk minivan or SUV.

BTW, my X has WAY more back seat room than my old 2007 WRX had...plenty of room for two car seats. Overall, the Evo makes the older model WRX's feel like an econobox.

Maybe it's just the large SSS wing on the back which makes her think it looks like a ricer car.

No, you should definitely agree with her. Bring home brochures for nice grown up AWD cars - Audi, BMW, etc. The Mitsu will look much better in those comparisons. Before I bought my Evo I was looking for a more grown up car - a Legacy GT...

And KPerez, let's not kid ourselves by trying to lie about the greenness of the Evo. This is the car having the honor of having the worst economy of a new production 4 cylinder in the country.

You have a bigger problem. The only discussion you and your wife should have is whether there is money available to buy a car or not (and their very well might be a legitimate reason against it) . Deciding on what car is your decision.

Unless she is paying the bills, not her decision.

Relationships should make you happy, not make you good at arguing

if money is a factor compare the evo x with the other awd 4dr family cars that you know are priced outside your budget.. go look and drive bmw 335x and the mb 300 4matic, g37x and then bring in the cheaper awd evo x

I'm sure your kids like the wrx.. I don't know.. If I had a family with younger kids and wanted AWD.. I'd get some type of Audi..

LOL... that's how you come home to a sh*t storm and end up sleeping on the couch or worse.

Fortunately, I bought my X a little BEFORE my wife and I got married.

She always says she doesn't mind the car, but ever since I got my greddy Ti-C, I can tell she can't stand it anymore. Although, she does encourage me to give it a rip once in a while against other sports cars lol.

Everyone likes sports cars. I mean, how could you go wrong with an AWD, brembo packed, 4-door that has all the airbag safety features AND AYC & S-AWC. It cannot be beat for what it is. A safe car is one that handles and stops sharply in wary situations. It's about being able to get out of sticky situations and having the confidence of being backed by state of the art technology.

I don't know... I got mine because it looked mean as hell and because I just couldn't let go of it after my initial test drive in brooklyn. I just had to drive home in one after blasting down the belt parkway with the sales manager going over 110mph. I didn't even know the car had side airbags and all those safety features. It went fast. It stopped on a dime. It cornered like no other car I've ever driven. SOLD!

LOL my fiancee at the time thought I was going to buy some sort of family car too. Man was she shocked to see the evo pull in. She knows she loves the car too . Just hates hearing me talk about it 24/7
