i dont know, i switched my oem battery to a samll one over a year now. So the OEm was in my basement. Then my Montero Battery died , so i said hey i have a brand new one in my basement. So i put it in the Montero. I was there with jumping cable etc. But the Montero started like nothing ever happened. Since then is still using the same Evo Battery without any problem.
Sadly the Evo battery didnt make it faster >)
Thats all i know about the EVo battery.

Optima is freaking heavy.
I had a Yellow top in my VIII , but when i got it i was horrified by the weight of that thing.
So i changed it later for a small one Since then i dont run anything but a small battery.

You are running a mini battery in the trunk on your X? I don't race so weight doesn't matter to me...starting at -20f does.

Haven't had a problem yet @ 25K, and we've had some bloody cold days in the past month. Maybe I'm just lucky? 99% sure I'm on the non-Optima battery.

I had it in my IX too, granted it is no -20F here but neither +50. Also the IX was a DD car, not a full blown race car.
Also the full race cars are rarely driven so they sit much longer without start vs the DD car. But you right i dont think in the continuous -20F the mini battery would less longer then a week

I think there is other batteries out there, /no mini's/ is lighter then the optima.
Fact i think the optima is the heaviest battery i ever had.
No offense just an observation. The X is heavy already so why add weight?
Look up the weights too, its never hurts.

and it cures cancer too.

speaking as an electrical engineer, i wouldn't believe a word of it.

yeah honestly as long as your ground is good for the power flow I don't see it helping. Maybe if you are using a 20 gauge wire to ground your battery you would see issues but that isn't the case.

Quick follow up. Just got the stock Panasonic battery replaced with the Optima Redtop. Covered by warranty. Works perfect

My stock Panasonic battery was completely dead within a month of owning my evo X... it would not hold a charge. I replaced it with an Optima Yellow Top and have had no problems... I even deployed for a few months, came back and it started right up!

Good advice right there. Same thing on my old Integra as well. Ideally you want to prime the fuel lines and then it should start easily. You are probably hitting the fact that it takes a couple seconds to get fuel through the lines.

Sounds like your battery was the issue, but none the less the above is good for the car. And I agree, the grounding issue idea is likely a non-issue here, don't waste your time with that.

Yes the Panasonic Battery that comes from the Factory sux!! My MRs' is deadder than a door nail! I have had great success with the Optima brand batteries. The Red Top is deep cycle for great power when starting, especially when cold. The yellow top is great , it is much more stable and power fluxuations will be less with this battery. I just bought a Yellow top, they are pricy tho. $250+ to be exact, but I feel they are worth it.

As for your problem, it may not be your battery. When you turn on the ignition, the oil can symbol shows up on the dash and stays lit for a few seconds. The ECM is doing the self check of the car. Just wait till that oil can goes away and it will start . This has been my experience with my X.

Happy tuning!

Lefty
