Non HID to HID Swap = DRL problem

Hey guys,

I wanted to shed some light on anyone considering the OEM non HID headlight swap to an HID headlight. I recently had the chance to swap the lights straight up with a shop that was building an EVO X race car and didnt need the HIDs.

The lights obviously fit without issue and the plugs are exactly the same down to the wire colors. Everything works, the lights turn on and off, parking lights, etc. I also swapped over the relays which were different.

The problem lies though when the parking brake is dropped, and the daytime running lights want to come on. If you look at the non HID light the DRLs are on the main headlight unlike the HIDs that use the highbeam light.

What happens is that the HID now wants to turn on as the DRL and it flickers for a bit then goes off. At that point the relay is either stuck or not working properly and the headlights stop working altogether. I have to turn the car off and on if I want to reset them.

The work around is simply turning on the headlights before I drop the parking brake and runing them all the time.

My question is does anyone have a PDF of the EVO X service manual so I can look at the wiring diagram? I want to figure out if its possible to disable the DRLs altogether.

I've already checked the fuse box with no results. I had Mitsu hook up the MUT tool and there is an option to change the headlights from Non HID to HID setting but for some reason it cant be changed.

The DRL fuse is only for the SSS (HID) package.

I did the same swap on my car and I have the same flickering issue.

I've been looking for a way to kill that DRL w/o all that wiring mess but I haven't been able to find a solution yet.

I have the PDF for the service manual. PM me your email and I send it to you.
