GT-R owner considering switch to Evo X MR
++1, agree; very honest and direct.
If you can afford the GT-R and like its performance/price, keep it. If you can't afford it but like something with a lower price but great performance/price ratio, the Evo X is great. But the ongoing cost to keep the Evo probably isn't that much lower than the GT-R if you drive it hard or motorsport it. Brakes and tires ain't cheap and wear often; the drivetrain lube maintenance has gotta be close btwn the two. So the majority of the savings is the ride itself. If that's covered, keep your GT-R.
Unless you're looking to strap a kid seat/pumpkin seat into the ride. Four doors is easier to make kid-friendly.

I think this last page has the best information on it period.
Now granted I don't drive a X day to day, I did test drive a few when they first came out to feel the difference between X and my IX MR. And its night and day. I believe the IX was the last true Evo. Mitsu has tried, (horribly at that) at the livable sports car, like the Sti, 911, GTR, ect. Not the rawness that the Evo's have always been known for, and therefore made them sleeping monsters.
Now all that said, I have really considered the GTR as being the car that sleeps in my garage. The body lines, the interior, the over all feel of the car, I have not driven one, but have been in many, and short rides with owners. Its refined power. Its fast, it handles, its an all out beast, but its to lavish and over priced, for me.
A few post up the guy said it best, plain and simple the GTR and the EVO can't be compared, they are in different classes, and again even though Mitsu tried with the MR touring, the Evo will never have the feel of a high class sports car.
Now to end my rant, I would be surprised if i have spent 50k total (including the purchase of car) on my IX to date, it has been all over the board as far as HP goes from 350 to 450, besides the two front seats the interior sucks, it rattles, clinks, sputters, wiring harness fail, and the local dealership is just a joke. But my car still draws looks from the masses, gets respect from big bad v8s, as well as exotic auto owners, and when I slam the gas and take a turn at 80 i am confident i will come out of it.
I have thought long and hard about getting a GTR in place of the Evo, I love this car hobby as much as the next guy, but the inflation of the name GTR and the maintenance is just ridiculous. If cars where my only hobby, yes a GTR would be in my garage. Its not so the Evo wont be going anywhere.

Ha ha, I love it how a lot of the people saying "Keep the GTR" Either don't have anything posted in their "Drives:" Profile or have STI or something or other.
I don't own either car, but after driving both, I'd have to say the MR is by far the better value and money issues was one of the things you mentioned. There's no other "Downgrade" available on the market that is going to give you as much value and performance for the dollar then the Evo. So yeah, do it.

Actually, one of the top engineers/project managers etc for Mitsubishi was quoted as saying something to the effect of, "This is not the finished product." When referring to the X upon launch. Seems they had to curtail, leave off a bunch of features because of cost. Maybe they'll be on better financial footing by the time the XI rolls out.
The EVO X MR is the poor man's GTR. I really wanted a GTR but in the end I simply couldn't afford it (factoring in all of the maintenance.) It's really a rich mans toy, a car that is paid for in cash and sits around for the Track. Because of it's price point, lots of people purchased it and assumed they could afford it - which is why there is an abundance of them for sale.
Not saying this about the OP, of course.
Now - the MR has the Turbo motor, AWD system, and SST transmission. Similarities to the GT-R.. Of course, it's slower, cheaper, but for several thousand dollars I'm sure you could make it handle and perform just like a GT-R and have some beer money left over.
Not to discredit the GT-R, it's an amazing machine. The other issue is that Nissan pretty much expects you to drive it like a grandma if you want the warranty to stick around. If you buy a Porsche, things are different - although you are paying WAY more for it so I can see the point. Most likely people with a GT-R can afford for it to break and make it better.
I take my modded Evo into my dealer and they treat me with respect... although I'm lucky enough to be in the same vicinity as one of the best Mitsu dealers in the country.

Could be an arguable statement if your talking 4 door AWD SST type tranny only, but even then there are factors like warranty's, dealership experience, quality; rattles/paint, stereo issues(upgraded fosgate one), less power, etc which the EVO, whether GSR or MR. If you can look past things I just mentioned then yes, a downgrade to an EVO MR/GSR would be fine....
That's highly doubtfull, they can't even keep there subsidiary open (ralliart).
I did not post in this thread to argue, I have owned a VIII, now a IX, and driven many X's.
Out of the box, the IX is faster then both the VIII and the X, and the GTR is faster then all three.
Mod's to any will obviously change the results, I am by no means a IX fanboy, but more of a fast car, great platform fanboy.
Good luck to the OP, with your choices on the table, I don't think you can lose.

GTR to X MR? I'm sure it is not the money, because without downpayment, monthly difference in payment is only $300.00. GTR is a very fast car but doesn't have soul unlike the "evo."
The hard performance bits are what I'm talking about. Dealership experience, warranty vary from person to person, and good or bad experiences aren't mutually exclusive from either brand. Less power? Less money, period. The Evo is half the cost (when compared to a brand new 2010 GTR)
All manufacturers are trimming fat right now. Mitsu is look to merge with Peugeot and is releasing new products. That's more important then keeping open Ralliart when they aren't running in the WRC.
