How to go from 23mpg Highway to 29mpg
I got 31 mpg MEASURED while driving to SD and back. I used the pulse and glide method. People probably thought I was crazy. I would speed up to 80 while watching my AFR gauge and maintaining 14-15 AFR, then push in the clutch and idle while coasting down to 55-60 mph and repeat. Over and over for a couple of hours. Very boring. I was obviously not following anybody because they would have to be driving the same way. I have the receipt to prove it. I think the MPG gauge read 26.8 for most of it. I'm pretty sure I confused it. lol
I put the family in the car for Easter and went to church. I drove like a grandma on the interstate and got the digital readout (we all know its meaningless) to say 23.1mpg. Typically, I am doing good to get it to say 20.
This is from leaving garage to church parking lot, 90% highway driving.

my previous two tanks on my new Evo: 220 miles until the mileage to refill number disappeared. horrible, i knew what i was getting into when i bought the car but still having difficult time adjusting to it, especially i kind of lied to my wife that Evo is a 4 cylinder japanese car, so gas mileage should be better than my previous ride.
Like I said a few posts up, I get >21 in town and I flog it daily...how hard are you on this car?
I'm at 300ft elevation, what is yours?
My area is flat, is your hilly?
I don't have alot of traffic/congestion, you?
Tires at 32psi, you?
K&N panel filter, you?
TP with CB exhaust, you?
Is your LTFT maxed out?
Sea level
Hilly
Not really any traffic.
I'll have to check. You might be on to something. Last time I checked was about 2 months ago

Can't see the tables. But I do have a tune. The horrible MPG started the day I put on my CB exhuast. Before then I was always getting around 180-195miles per tank. Now I'll be lucky to get past 165 miles per tank. Thought a tune would fix it but I'm getting the same thing.
I mentioned the horrible MPG to the guy who tuned my car. He said that he changed the fuel ratio from 11/1 to 10/1 (or the other way around, can really remember). MPG is still beyond horrible. I'm sure that I can get it to below 10mpg without trying too hard or breaking any speed limits. I take the train to work because fuel milage is beyond horrible (but I drove it in today:-).

You can log the LTFT's yourself using Evoscan and openport 2.0. If the LTFT is more than 5% off you need to make adjustments or you could have an exhaust leak preventing the 02 sensor from accurately measuring the A:F ratio...Check for exhaust leaks....should see black soot where there is a leak.
The fact that this started when the CB was installed, tell me, you very well could have a leak...
