I can tell you I don't ride any semi's asses because they are all going faster than what I go for one. I do fill up the tank as much as possible that's why there is a thing called tank capacity... you know, it's where a tank can hold a certain amount? lol.
I have seen HiBoost's posts where he has gotten 300 miles out of a tank, but if you break that down to 14 gallons with is about the max the tank will hold it's still just over 21 mpg average... I don't know why it's so unfathomable to some of these posters why one could get that... it's obviously still not great by any means is it?
your right there are other options than hybrids for better mpg. but why would mitsu worry about mpg on a lancer evolution???

Are the X's that much worse?
Yes, they are.

well let's reverse the question... why the f*** wouldn't they worry about it? Chevy's Corvette gets what? 28 or so mpg highway... why did Chevy worry about it on a Corvette? Stupid question.

a lot of the high perf euro cars are getting pretty damn good mpgs - twin turbo bmws, the current gen s4.. why cant the evo do the same? hyundai is getting 275 hp on their turbo-4 with 34mpg highway.. obviously not a direct comparo but still

I think that while the Evo is a totally amazing car most of us here would agree they have screwed up just as many things as they have done right from the paint to the paper thin windshield to the mileage, the poor seats, cheapy feeling interior, etc. If the car was 5,000.00 cheaper then it would be much harder to complain... but it's not.

I fail to see how "driving properly" has anything to do with getting ~22MPG with the cruise control on at 75MPH over 500 miles.

At some point, there's a lack of "what I can do to make my mileage better simply by driving differently".

I have no doubt there's some tuning tweaks that can be made, but if you're not willing/capable of doing those, well, you're going to hit a limit of mileage in these cars.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you. I'd love for you to drive my car on the highway at 75MPH and get over 25MPG, I just fail to see how it'd happen.

I guess it also depends on your definition of "good", haha

The tuning obviously would make the most difference. You also have to understand that where I live the speed limit is still 55. I don't see the need to drive 75 since with traffic, red lights, etc you really don't wind up getting anywhere much faster. Obviously if the speed limit was higher the mileage would be lower, but it's not. Modulating the throttle however has a great effect on adding mileage vs. cruise IMO anyway.

I rarely look at the fuel economy guage on my evo. I feel the temperature is more important. but after over 60k miles, I've seen everything from 10 mpg to just above 30 mpg.

When I first got mine If I drove about 41 mph and the roads weren't overly hilly, 32 mpg was possible (though it wouldn't last long after the speed limit changes )

It's funny that this comes up!!! When I saw people reporting back that they were getting good fuel mileage I thought I was doing something wrong. Apparently I wasn't. It makes me feel better to see that I am not the only one.

I have not gotten the 29mpg that the OP has in his title, but I have gotten 27 riding on a lot of 50-55 mpg back roads... and that is the car resetting itself after I leave the house and it was about an hour trip. The way most people I see on here driving 75-85 mpg you're not likely going to get more than 23 or so I would imagine, BUT the guys getting some of the higher numbers also have larger turbos that spool at higher RPM's which I believe would at least make some difference.
