How to go from 23mpg Highway to 29mpg
I actually saw 25.xxx just yesterday. My jaw hit the floor as I did nor drove any differently.
with only 500 miles on my new MR(STOCK) I took her for a long drive cruising at 70mph, I did a calculation and got 19.5 mpg when the computer read 23.4
I was very light footed purposefully to see how much I could get... I don't see myself going anywhere near 20mpg in the future

Holy crap, thanks.. I've been trying to set mine to manual for weeks, and couldn't figure out why it kept reverting back to the auto-reset (after 4-hours, I think). Thought I was doing it wrong, but guess not.. and wow, what could possibly be the logic behind that one? It makes trying to compare your actual miles/gallons calculations versus the car's impossible.. that is such an unbelievably dumb design!
My MPG has been in the 15-20 range after returning from vacation since I've been driving like a maniac testing various rpm ranges, still it could always be worse.

My friend was driving his Lamborghini Gallardo down in Florida and 10 MPG city / 15 MPG Highway is about all he could muster out of that 5.0L V10 that puts out 520 crank HP on a 3150 lb AWD car. Granted it was pretty fast considering it was unaltered from the factory but it's absolutely gutless below 4k RPM's and the low end torque is about 100 less than my car at 4500 with a very peaky powerband. Now a tune would help his MPG quite a bit but those twin turbo packages certainly wouldn't. So yes there are cars that get worse mileage than the Evo X!
i barely got out of 17 mpg when my car was a streeet car. Now im happy if its see's 8 mpg
My Tundra has same gas milage as my EVo was before, and its V8 with 5.7 liiter engine and 381 hp + freaking heavy

If that's true, then why did my refill light come at 260 miles? I'm talking about the first refill btw, the one where you can go at least another 20 miles before you run out. Why also can I get 19-21 mpg driving around a little town with multiple stops? I'll make a video of it next time if you don't believe me.
To the OP, I have a map that one of the guys on here helped me with. HiBoost also helped me a lot with mileage and understanding timing and such. People want to talk about driving like a grandma are the ones who can't really drive. I don't know why people feel the car has to be pushed all the time. They they are the same ones who call you stupid for driving fast on public roads... a few hypocrites we have on this site I suppose.
Much of the mileage for me is a few things. The map has helped me the most. My mileage went down when I put a TBE, UICP and drop in on the car which is when I really started to search for better mileage. Anyway, the map, I do NOT use CC, the problem is it doesn't gradually speed up when going up a slight incline, or speeding up at all, it just goes. With your foot you have to learn to feel the load on the engine, watch the sliding read out when you are on the highway and how just taking a LITTLE pressure off the pedal will make it rise, yet keeps the speed the same. Going through towns and such this is very helpful. Most of the speed limits around my town are 25, I am in 4th gear when doing this speed, once I get to 35 i'm in 5th which keeps the RPM's low and if you are on flat ground then you can get much better mileage than keeping it in 4th.
Again, the car is fun we all know, but it doesn't have to be driven like a moron and then have people acting like know it all's just because they can't get decent mileage like others can.

not sure if this helps but a few people claiming higher mpg's may have been riding some semi-trailers asses.
in my 97 diamante ls I average almost 450-500 miles per tank on roadtrips (720 mile round trips). on one trip last summer I hopped behind a semi for nearly 3 hours of straight driving. That trip my tank light went on at nearly 650 miles!
also how empty are they running their tanks? everycars tank has a reserve. some tanks you can drive nearly 30-100 miles with the gas light on. also jamming as much gas into their tank *** possible(keep squeezing after gas stops itself a few times.
so maybe someone who filled their tank up as humanly possible, accelerated as little as possible, and drove to almost fumes in their tank may show near 30mpg.
but whats the point we own lancer evolutions(well i did till a week ago).
buy a hybrid if your watching your gas that close

you guys should keep track using a FUELLY - http://www.fuelly.com/
Keep track of it for an extended period of time, and in the bottom left corner you can sign up to do a SMS, so you can text your MPG. Just have to reset the trip computer everytime you fill up and then see how many gallons go in. It's a pretty moot point if you get 25mpg ONCE from ONE trip that you were on the highway for or whatever

we've all heard the "buy a hybrid if you want better mileage" opinion and it's a stupid statement, there are things that Mitsu could do to up the overall mileage.
I can tell you I don't ride any semi's asses because they are all going faster than what I go for one. I do fill up the tank as much as possible that's why there is a thing called tank capacity... you know, it's where a tank can hold a certain amount? lol.
I have seen HiBoost's posts where he has gotten 300 miles out of a tank, but if you break that down to 14 gallons with is about the max the tank will hold it's still just over 21 mpg average... I don't know why it's so unfathomable to some of these posters why one could get that... it's obviously still not great by any means is it?
