08 MR will not turn off

I've had this issue a couple times in the past year, but it's happened every time I try to turn the car off the past few days. Basically I can turn the fask key knob to the ACC position but not all the way off.

Usually a decent amount of jiggling will fix the issue, but recently I've had to leave the car on (not being able to lock the doors). It's almost like the sensor that detects when the car is in P isn't picking it up.

It died on me this morning because the head unit had to stay on for a couple hours.

I haven't been able to find any threads pertaining to this issue. My dealer is about 30 miles away and I know when I bring it in the ignition won't be acting up.

Any insight is appreciated.

try to document it on video and show it to the dealer, they can't really deny it then. never had this problem in my gsr, i'm assuming it's the same problem like you stated, the car doesn't register that the car is in park

I thought you were complaining about when the fans stay on sometimes after hard driving.

Nevermind tho. I haven't heard of that problem before. +1 on getting a video showing it in park, trying to shut the car off, not being able to lock the doors, etc.

No aftermarket electronics. Factory Nav.

After doing more searching it seems the previous MY lancers had an issue with removing the key from the ignition on AT models. They resolved it by wiggling the wheel back and forth, this does not seem to have any impact on mine.

The only noticable ways I've resolved it is by wiggling the turn knob or letting the car sit and then driving it, neither of which routinely fix the problem.

Sounds like the ignnition switch is bad and/or lock cylinder.

I'm 99% sure it's not the cylinder. I can put the key in and turn to the other positions which varifies that the wafers are not getting hung up on anything.

The sst models (MR) wait for a signal from the sst transmission to say it is in neutral before they turn off it sounds like this could be the problem. video it take it to the dealer they will sort it.

Thanks for the advice.

The dealer was no help as expected. They could not replicate the problem and the problem never came back up for me to video tape. Knowing my luck, it will resurface after my warranty is up

What do you mean when you say "it will not turn off"? That's a bit vague.

Do you mean, you can't physically turn the key knob, or that when you turn the key knob, it doesn't actually turn off after 2 seconds?

I noticed recently that I was having difficulty turning the key from ON to OFF/LOCK... sometimes. I just pushed the knob "in" harder as I was turning... and it seems to go thru fine. I haven't really had that problem lately... and I don't remember consciously pushing hard either.

The engine shuts off just fine (thankfully). I tried to make my OP as clear as possible. I'm not quite sure how to reword it so that you will understand.

Basically the knob will not turn past the ACC position to the OFF position.

I've owned this car for 1.5 years so I'm quite famliar with the typical characteristics....
