holy crap bro. I'm just a lurker on these forums since i'm counting my pennies for a down payment for an Evo X.

I usually don't let possessions get to me if they become damaged or if I lose them but damn man this really hit a spot. I can't imagine the pain in your gut after seeing all of your hard work end up like that.

At least you and the passenger are okay since cars are replaceable but not people.

Again i'm sorry for your loss man

Ditto! I also have 2 children in the back of mine. I might have to fit an ejection system to the child seats lol... eject eject eject.....!

Post up a little more detail on the scenario. Sudden smoke and flames, or gradually just started to smell something. Kids in the rear for me also. Just would like to know a time line so I have a chance to get them out in time!! Sorry for the big scare and loss btw. Glad everyone was safe.

I feel your pain, literally. back on June 22, while driving down the road my evo IX started ablaze and burnt for an hour(middle of nowhere.) I didnt even post about it here. Good luck with everything. took my insurance about one month to square me away, and that they did VERY well.

If it didn't look like the fuel pumps/lines were damaged in the fire, I can't imagine this could be anything other than a battery failure. The fact that the car lost electrical functionality for a moment (off then back on again) seems to back this point up. Sure we know that seats are getting burned a bit, but it wouldn't make a loud pop... it'd just catch on fire.

It sounds like the battery popped and started a fire. Time to get Mitsubishi on the phone, unless someone else is going to do a thorough investigation into the cause (which I doubt).

If your insurance company asks you if you want to buy the car back, say yes - I'll buy it from you...track car

Good luck with insurance and glad you are safe!

i might just buy the motor back. the motor and wheels(rotas lol) are about the only things that are left. everything else completely melted.

my car had been through hell the past couple of months.
