Guys I really need HELP

I went to pick up my new 2010 Evo X GSR today. The car has been shipped in from another dealer out of state. All papers are signed and all I have to do is take delivery. I knew the car had 800 dealer miles which were not test drive miles they were to transport the car to the previous dealership , I had it trucked here . Any way I was told that the car was in show room quality. I am paying MSRP and when I went to pick it up today I noticed on the test drive the idle was fluctuating. Being the previous owner of a smooth runnin 80,000 mile ralliart I noticed the idle right away. There was no climate control on or any other things to effect the load on the engine. I figured maybe it needed to warm up but after a regular drive on the highway for about 10 min I exited and sat at the light and it still would fluctuate. Im quite sure it was not the cooling fans because it was fluctuating at close intervals as if the fan was coming on...off...on..off... seems like a rough idle to me? Can any Evo X owners comment on their idle when you bought the car? Im stuck right now and dont want to take the car if it has problems but you know the dealer they will tell you everything is right. I have driven many turbo cars and never seen idle like this..... Thanks for your help

Sounds normal to me. My 08 does it. Lots of 08's do it. It's just the crap stock idle from the factory. Seems as if, as in your case, 2010's have the "rough idle curse" as well. A tune will make it right as rain. Nothing to worry about, although it is annoying and sounds like a Ford with a crap idle speed sensor.

Do the rpm's fluctuate about 3-400 rpm or so or does it jump up to 1500 rpm and drop down again?

Check if your vacuum hose is secure with a zip tie. I had this issue, except my hose was securly clamped down and the car rev would bounce hard sporadically from 900-500 to the point of shaking and thinking I would stall at a light. I installed an ETS intake and haven't had the problem since. It still idles relatively low to my taste (600-650) and I am thinking about flashing it up to 800/850. Main thing for me is I sit in Jersey/NYC traffic and if I'm not careful with the clutch creep I may stall. That and increasing the rpm should help creep faster as the car connects. Right now I connect and the car barely moves LOL.

The RPM's fluctuate about 3-400 rpm at idle maybe less. Its enough to watch the tack move between ticks like from 500 - 700. It didn't jump up to 1500 or anything. I have been reading about the vacuum hose that may pop off. If that was off would that be an indicator of hard driving or not necessarily? I'm just skeptical about how this thing was driven even though its "new".

Well the only way to check if it's your FPR hose is to pop the hood and take a look next to the oil dipstick. I highly doubt that it's the problem because your car would run like absolute **** but it's worth it to check.

There's no way of knowing ,really, if the car was beat on at the dealership ,but I'd put good money on it. Especially, a car with 800 miles on it. You know at least one person hooned on it. (not trying to make you paranoid lol)

I actually really doubt it is the hose. Most new X's already are already clamped and secured like mine was. I just wanna know what the stock idle is set to on the newest flashes. It seems that it is set too low on a stock airbox. My friend had the same issue and after a flash to 850 everything settled and even when he turned the air on full blast the idle only increased to 900 without any fluttering. Most people idle around 800/900 due to their tune and if things start fluttering then... most likely it is the hose. Do you shift @ high rpms in lower gears even though your not spirited driving? Just a thought. Next time you are shifting watch the tack (usually a nono) and never bring the rpm past 3700. Keep us updated!

^ I'm pretty sure I've read the only difference between 08 stock maps vs. 10 stock maps are 10's have lean spool enabled from the factory. Otherwise they're identical. MR's however have better TCU mapping in 2010 trim.

Unfortunately as of right now I do not have the car I did not take delivery because I was quite upset about the state of the car....there were some major scratches and scuff marks and the idle was the last straw. When I did drive the car i was shifting around 3,000 rpm but when I brought it back to the dealer to show them it sat for 5 min or so at idle and continued to do it. seems like it did it no matter what. I guess all i need to know is am I over reacting or is this a common occurrence. It looks like this may be common, but with 800 miles from an unknown dealer driver i don't want to take any chances.

Good idea.
The idle issue was very random for me. Happened like once a week. It started then at the next light it would be fine. If this was the case for you, I'd say just replace the intake or the drop in and see what happens. But scratches... yeah man eff that.

Good thing you didn't. Sounds as if the car has been shuffled around alot. Don't worry you'll find one that's in better shape. I can't believe they were gonna charge you MSRP on a car with 800 miles on it. Sounds like the idle is the least of your problems.

Do you know if the dealership have a similar vehicle on their lot to compare? But yeah, don't take on delivery with scratches.

Rights

You have to physically take delivery (drive it off the lot) after you sign the paperwork...ie you get a thirty day tag and drive it off their parking lot. I worked at a dealership for 7 years and had multiple people back out of deals after they signed the paperwork... Dont let them tell you any different

I don't know about your state but I'm pretty sure here in Ma you have the right to your money back after a certain amount of days of ownership.
