Newbie, Convince me to buy a Evo X =)
Hey everyone. I am new to this forums, however not new to forums in general. I need some help with deciding if a EVO X would be right for me from your experiances. I have been threw many cars and currently daily driving 400hp supra. I am looking for something that is 4doors/turbo and can seat 5 comfortablely.
Whats a common EVO X max hp with basic standard mods?
Reliability with mods?
Does it seat 5 comfortably?
Which model? MR? GSR?
Would I be happy with the power compared to my supra right now?
I searched the forums and understand the basics, but I wanted a real world what would you do differently if you bought the car again. Or regret buying it. Etc.
Thanks for any advice!

bolt on's and a tune w/ 91 octane will net you anywhere from 295-320 whp on a dynojet (e85 will turn up the wick a good 30+ whp)
reliability with just bolt on's is the same as stock IMO
seat 5 comfortably? I'd say no, the rear leg space is not that great. A 6' male like myself cannot comfortable sit behind one of the front seats without my legs spread somewhat open
model? That's a personal preference. Do you want a true manual or do you want to slap paddles? The SST tranny has gotten excellent reviews but I wouldn't have it any other way than a standard 5 speed
In stock form it's not a slow car. It's got some power and is more than enough for daily driving fun. Is it going to impress you in a straight line? Absolutely not. Will it impress you everywhere else? Yes, not many autox/road course capable supra's out there. The X is a track machine even in stock form.
I went from a 350 whp Evo IX to a stock X and I really don't regret it. It's slower, quieter, and heavier. However, it's a step up on the interior and is still a fun car to drive. I will be modding it in the future. Would like to be around 350 whp and 350 wtq with bolt on's when I'm all said and done.
Other than a straight line, the X is a much better car than a Supra IMO.

Go buy an STi instead. You'll like it more. Convinced?
In all actuality test drive one, you're obviously interested in it or you would've asked about other cars too. I'm sure once you test drive you will be sold. MR vs GSR is really up to you. I'd prefer manual for a cheaper price personally.

400hp supra , handles like a boat? hmm
1:400 whp with bolts nah? buts its easy with tune you live in Socal? Road/Race Engineering or HBSPEED for tune
2:Good as long as you let your tuner pick the parts for you . To many peps buy there own turbo and end up blowing there motor. Let your shop pick your mods Road/racing? Drag? Street/track? let them pick for your use.
3:Yeah it does I sleep in mine sometimes its comfy
4:GSR if you want cheap $$$ 400whp MR if you want to stay close to 400whp it ant cheap though
5:Supra are fun in a strait line Evos are fun everywhere.

I guess my next question would be 400whp on 91 oct? possible im thinking meth would be needed? and cost? One post says around 320whp. My supra currently dyno's in at 360whp on 91 oct @ 16psi. Im sure awd would handle much better than rwd =P

See my answers below:
Whats a common EVO X max hp with basic standard mods?
350AWHP
Reliability with mods?
Yes with tune
Does it seat 5 comfortably?
Depends on the size of rear passagers, but like any compact sedan, it seats 4 comfortably, 5 if they are small.
Which model? MR? GSR?
Sounds like you want some daily driver comfort especaily coming from a Supra. So MR or MR Touring for you.
Would I be happy with the power compared to my supra right now?
Yes with mods plus much better handling then Supra. I have owned NSX and E46 M3, while they were both fun cars, EVO beats them with confidence.

I have had both a evo 8 then to a evo x, and would say I would not buy the x again. Its a nice car but the evo 8 and 9 are superior sports cars... I think the evo x is just to heavy for the power it makes. My Evo X put down over 350whp at buschur's dyno and it feels slow compared to my old evo 8 with about the same power...
What kind of budget are you going to have for mods? If you are swapping out turbo's it is very easy to make over 400 hp to the tire. Keep the TQ in check and it should last a while. I am already at 23k miles and still going strong. If you want more than 450 wtq go with the GSR. The MR is making great strides but the GSR is still the trans to have if you want big power.
As far as will you be happy, cant really answer that. But I love my car and enjoy the hell out of it, which is very impressive given my list of cars (see sig). In my opinion the Evo is a car every gear head should own at some point.

Just keep in mind that if you buy an Evo X, you should budget money every year for a new set of extreme performance summer tires, $200 or so ea. Your supra may not handle like the Evo
I actually am on set #3 and use a set of A/S tires for DD/winter to help defray the cost; this is the first summer I did that due to a 40m one-way trip to work. Other maintenance will keep you busy, so if your other car was maint free, plan on giving love to your Evo every couple of months, nothing too bad though. It's a pretty expensive toy, cheaper than a Vette, so unless you're in the league and ready to spend Acura sorta money, it may look steep to aquire. And it doesn't have the Acura cost of ownership, no way. This is my first Mitsubishi. No regrets at all. I want to be buried in my Evo. I'm a car guy, and no car has ever gotten me this head of heels in love before.

Five person comfort - wider than a normal Lancer but a tad shorter in the back.
Noise is the biggest complaint I get from the backseats. Kids would fit better back there. Front seats a person up to 6-6 or better, no prob.
No worries on power unless you want immediate torque. This IS a 4cyl turbo, 2L, so it takes education to figure out what gear to keep it in for every situation.
im racing my 08 X since i got it. No crazy numbers, one point my X was running close to 340 whp and WTQ, then became a rally car. Now its 245 whp and 340 wtq. Stock engine only Cosworth cams, stock drive train, only the Exedy triple pack clutch. Im running stock brakes, i finished one rally with STOCK suspension/finished 3rd place with it in my category - 8th overal/
this was when my car runned less then 3K miles in it, not the first time on track back in early 08

lately

so , i think im one of those who truly abuse and test the X in every surface
The car is never let me down. Only the "upgrades" on it. Only the MAF sensor failed so far on the car.
The car has over 14k miles and not grocery shopping.
So that is pretty reliable for me. But you have to decide.
I would pick the MR for DD, the GSr for more track oriented.
I hope it helps
Rob.
