Thinking about switching: STi to Evo X
To be honest that was my first choice, 2011 sedan, but I dont like the look. 04 to 07 were the best , after that they went downhill, looks wise.
Wow that is awesome! Glad to hear that. This gives me little bit more confidence.
Thank you sir! It will be paid off after 10 more months.
Stock vs stock I know Evo handles better but I have coilovers, swaybars, endlinks and RE01Rs on STi right now. I am pretty sure I am going to step down on handling department until I upgrade EVO's suspension to same level as my STi was.
I agree with you on the torq part. I love how 350 wtq hits hard around 3k rpm, awesome feeling
Good to hear another EVO owner hitting 30k on the stock clutch.
Lets start with that gem was not parked in an apt complex. Thats our subdivision's pool.
I cant say that it was hard for me to make power to be honest. With TBE, intake, EWG and pro-tune I picked up 100whp and 150whp
Man, I am very pro-Evo and anti-STI, but looking at your journal, that Subie is very clean. If I had a car that nice and it was paid off, I would keep it for sure. Plus 60k is not that bad mileage at all.
I'd hang onto it for another 60k at least, if nothing else for financial purposes and the fact that there is not a thing wrong with it. Super nice ride!

had an 05 sti. my member journal on iwsti is still there under my old user name twisties.
the evo x is more refined, much better at handling, nicer day to day to drive and makes a lot more power for less.
i miss the midrange torque and the 6 speed, but that's about it.
still on the stock clutch here...nearing 30k with at least a stage 1 in power since 5k. don't launch and the stocker's fine.

They X make's power so easy, simple fact. The difficult thing for me to understand is why you where parking that little gem in an apartment complex? i had an apartment the first year i owned my VIII and id have people with "87 Buick, pull 2 inches from my door of my brand new EVO Which was the fist 30K+ car i've ever owned... maybe keep the Subie till you get into place with a garage.

Clutch is not an issue if you know how to drive, especially if you are not going for BIG power on it. I honestly don't know how some people on here can burn it up that fast. Maybe launching at every red light?
I thought I would have to replace the clutch after 15k after the horror stories but I'm at 21k and it has not slipped once.

Without commenting on which car was faster or handled better...(hint Evo
)
I didn't own an STI, but I had a 07 WRX Limited, Stage 2 protune with DP, CBE, springs, sways, end links, braces, etc. It was a fun car and all, but it felt like an econo-box compared to my current Evo GSR.
My Evo has more interior room, and believe it or not, rattles way less than my old Subie.
And mostly, every performance part I've either installed or bought so far for the Evo has been easier to install and less expensive.

Oh ok. Thanks for the great info!

I have an 2003 evo 8 with 50k since new and I am continuing to mod it and do not plan to sell it anytime soon. If you want to try used get an older evo.
If I buy a new evo, I am going to skip the 10 and see what the 11 looks like. I do not like the style. I have always liked the Sti except for the hatch. I am not partial to each, but I do think you get more for the money on the evos. When I bought my evo 8, I saved $6k over a new Sti and I have been happy ever since.

I've had both a evo 8 and evo x both heavily modified, and though I love the way the X looks, it's simply too heavy! I think you would need 350whp to hang with a new Sti. If I had too pick I would take a 8 or 9 first then the new Sti followed by the x. This is coming from someone who has had 7 years of evo's. The main issue for me is the evo's weight!!!

On a track, my X blows my heavily modded VIII out of the water. All I've done for handling on my X is add a rear sway bar. On my VIII, I had upgraded diffs, undercarriage support, end links, rear sway, rear strut, wider tires. Both pulled around 310whp on the same dyno. So they were fairly equal. But my X would just put it to my VIII in the corners. That's enough for me to take a X over an VIII.
However, I'm starting to consider giving my X to my wife and picking up another VIII just so I have a cheaper car at the track. I'd rather trash a $13k car than a $38k car.
To the other poster that said the STi is more flickable... not sure what you mean. I'll admit I haven't driven an STi, but the X is just insane in the corners. Easily the best handling car I've had the pleasure of driving at the track.
I do agree with Noize though... as much as I love recommending the X over an Evo, if your STi is paid off, stick with it for a bit, unless you really want the performance benefits of the Evo.
I used to drive a 05 STI it was my brothers car... evos are much mod friendly and more capable plus the seats are amazing . when i bought my evo i never touched his STI after lol
