Thinking about switching: STi to Evo X
The transmission itself is not fragile what so ever. Their are many people running 400+whp in their MR. There are even a couple of 500+whp MRs.
.
Two years down the road, a lot can change. You may even see a 700+whp MR by then.
Not that you asked for this advice, but I'm going to give it anyways. Before you think about doing a new turbo, take the car to the track first. You might find it's way more car than you need with just a few bolt-ons and a tune. I'm running 310whp with just a few bolt-ons and it is plenty for my local 2 mile track. There are a few 450+whp evos there that can't keep up because it's too much car for them imo. I know far too many people that start modding their Evo without knowing what they need / don't need. Then they mod it into something they didn't want in the first place. The best way to know what you do want, is to test out what you have to it's fullest. Then go from there. Baby steps

I think I'm the right person to ask that as well
I hated it. I couldn't wait to get rid of the stock nav head unit and rockford sound system. I now have a Kenwood eXcelon 9140, and it KILLS the factory unit in every category. Hands free, bluetooth, garmin nav built-in, ipod controls, customizable. Save your money and get a real system.
Hope this helps

So that transmission can handle bolt-ons, tune and than some? Thats great to hear.
You are absolutely right about taking baby steps! I can just do bolt-ons and e85 tune and call it a day! Which should be good for lower 12's and tracking.

I saw an mr which has the navigation and the rockford speaker system. I tried the speaker system at dealer actually it sounded pretty good! Are you sure the sub and system is really ****ty?
Do you also think that MR is waste of money vs GSR and SE?

. The weakest link in the system is the amp. It volume limits, and does more damage than good. The sub is a 1ohm sub, and hard to get any real bass out of. Honestly it's all relative. I came from a 100% CDT Audio evo VIII to my X MR. So I had high expectations. I now have 100% Exile audio and it just sounds amazing. At first I just changed the amp, sub and deck. I knew right then the speakers weren't that great. Hardly any mid bass, and the tweeters blew within a week. They couldn't handle any real power.I own an MR, and I think it's a great car. In comparison to the SE, I think it's well worth it the extra money.
I personally prefer the SST for the track days and daily driving. If I was going to start racing, I'd probably get a GSR since the tranny is cheaper. Honestly, for what you get in an MR, it's well worth it. Two-piece rotors, bilstein struts, BBS wheels, leather / alcantara seats, upgraded interior with noise cancellation, 6th gear (lower drone on the freeway), really it's worth it. But it all depends what your end goals are.
I definitely suggest driving both. I was dead set on a GSR until I drove an MR. I thought no way in hell I was going to drive a two pedal car again. The test drive opened my eyes big time.
Yah that should be a good place to start. Honestly, the difference between just a tune and a stock car is night and day.
I'm absolutely sure since that is what I had

Well I wish I can drive both but my local dealer has only MR in stock. So, I cant test drive both. I have an idea how manual car feels like tho
that was till i drove the sst aggressively
And for the break in First 1000 miles be easy on it right and do NOT boost it, right?
I will defiantly post pics tomorrow cause she is going to get washed, it rained here today
I'm in the exact same boat as you, I have a 06' STi with about 60k on it, going to drive her all winter then upgrade to an 08' X in the spring, hopefully with under 20k, do some bolt ons, and wheels and call it a day.
I'm also a very active member on the IWSTI.
