I guess because I said I would chose the Sti over the x automatically makes me not like my evo x. Not true! I really like the car I think it's a step in right direction for Mitsubishi in terms of refinement, but I really like the rawness of the 8 & 9! The guy asked for opinions on which car to get and I gave him mine.

It looks like my only choice is GSR model since I want manual but what are the main differences between GSR, SE and MR.

Also to the folk who were in my shoes are you glad you went to the darkside? Is clutch really big of an issue?Does it need to be changed every 10k? How are maintenance costs?

Please discuss pros and cons of owning an Evo.
bro, dont worry about no clutch being changed after 10k. If you seen any post with such bs, then it was obviously driver error. these cars are strong and accept mods really well... treat it right, drive it right and you won't have issues.

if you do a little reading you'll find a LOT! of STOCK evo's running insane power as a daily driver with no issues. obviously things have a higher chance at breaking, but that rule applies to everything. buy something, tune/stretch it to its limits and it will break sooner.

Even the new Sti have problems. Check out the write up in issue #94 Drag Sport magazine. You even get a free dvd! lol

And why do you suggest the STI? You like the rawness of the VIII and the IX but you recommend a car in the STI that is softer than the EVO X. Hardly makes sense.

No.

That's why I could make that statement.

I remember installing phenolic intake spacers on the WRX...what a pain! I still have the scar for my effort!

Thank you very much for everybody's input. I decided to keep the car, at least, until it is paid off (10 months)and then I will take it from there. At least I wouldnt owe anything on it when I will trade it in.

I appreciate everybody's input, opinions and experiences and thank you for keeping the thread clean with out turning it into a "EVOvsSTi which one is better?" thread.

Thanks

NP! You'll find that most Evo owners are nicer than STi owners .

I was shocked to get a thumbs up from a new STi the other day. I had to double take to make sure it wasn't the middle finger I'm so used to.

One more question tho

If I were to put my current wheels on evo x, would it fit?

18x9.5 +38 Rota grids?

Found a post with "5Zigen FN01R-C - click me!
Price and more info by clicking the link above.

17" x 9" +35 fits, too, but I don't have pictures or weight for that one"

Im sure the 1" diff in rim size wont have an affect, and the rim width and offset seem to be pretty close. If you want to "MAKE SURE" read up on https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...questions.html

TON of different setup's on there.

cheers

just got back from mitsu dealer, they are giving me great trade- in value for my car and willing to get any car I found on the internet that is within 450 miles.

My question is SE is $2k-3k cheaper. What do you guys think about paddle shifters? Is it really laggy like any other auto car?

I know I will be getting better suspension than GSR but the only think I dont want is the auto?

Please share ur thoughts because need to make decision until tomorrow.

Thanks

Before the GSR fanbois jump in, i figured I'd answer

There is a proper way to drive the SST. You don't drive it like an automatic. If you drive like an automatic you will get lag off the start. If you drive it like a manual, you can compensate for it. Not only that but the lag can be tuned out as well.

I personally love the SST. I think it's one of the best transmissions out there. At the track, it just screams. You can do rookie mistakes like shifting in corners because it shifts so quickly and smoothly (depending what mode you're in).

With that being said, the GSR is great too. It really boils down to what you want out of your car. Do you want to daily drive it with the occasional track day? Do you want to make a ton of power (500+)? Do you get stuck in rush hour traffic a lot? Are you good with a clutch?

There is a lot of debate whether the SST is an automatic or manual, I think it's neither. Even states it operates more like a manual than an automatic, so I consider it a hybrid. A third class of transmission if you will.

Hope this helps.

Great explanation bro! Thanks

I am not gonna do track until I drop a proper turbo setup which would be 2 years down the line.

So it will be used as a daily driver maybe auto-x occasionally other than that.

I love having clutch it does not botter me on traffic therefore traffic is not an issue.

My real question is will it handle 400-500whp when I get the turbo setup later?
I mean is it fragile?
