Dude, I realize you had a bad experience with your X and want to share it every chance you get, but let's get serious. 350whp? That puts an Evo X around 12.30s to 12.40s at 112-113mpg in the quarter mile. That will obliterate a new STI. In fact, stock to stock the Evo is faster when you consider the 2010s have lean spool activated and make more power from 4000-7500rpm with shorter gearing. Much better area under the curve (and beyond peak) as well.

Look at nearly every magazine comparison in this country. The X destroys the STI.

Appreciate the props for the STi.

As you said one of my other concern is the transmission of the Evo. I heard They are fragile compared to STi tranny. I understand that I can make more power cheaper but if I cant lay that on the ground due to transmission issues, that will be a useless power.

The only reason I brought clutch issue is that I know a local Evo owner changed his clutch 3 times within 30-40k miles.
I think saying that the Evo tranny is "fragile" is a gross over exaggeration on the Evo 8 and Evo 9 and is completely unfounded on the Evo X.

I used to hear about the transmission being weak when I owned the STi and was on the STi boards all day too; but I have found that to be pretty much entirely false. The only less than bulletproof (within reason) part of the Evo 8 and 9 transmission was the transfer case, which is relatively cheap to upgrade IF you had a problem with it. I have not heard of the transmission or transfer case on the Evo X being an issue at all and there are plenty of 400-800+ whp Evo X's.

To put this in perspective, the Evo tranny is not as strong as the STi in the same way that the STi motor is not as strong as the Evo's. It's all relative right?. I think in both cases there is a lot of cross-forum misinformation regarding the strength of the Evo transmission and the strength of the STi motor.

IF you were to choose the Evo X over a new STi I doubt you will have an issue with the Evo tranny. Even while modding as far as an FP Red on any type of fuel you can throw at it. You will however need a new clutch eventually and will probably want to replace the master cylinder (fairly cheap) in the process.

Eh, I did a search and I think I have him confused with the other Viper guy. I guess JEP just hates his X.

But I definitely don't agree with needing 350whp to keep up with a stock STI, that's just hogwash. Exhaust + tune both cars, the Evo X will walk away, dragstrip or racetrack.

I believe my evo x weighs over 3600 hundred pounds, please correct me if I'm wrong. Aero package, sss package. In the late 90's I had a 3000gt vr4 97 model! Car made 320hp and I believe 300 to 320trq! And all everybody said was how heavy that car was. I can tell you it didn't feel nearly as heavy as my x in a straight line.

My X weighed 3510 pounds on corner scales with 3/4 tank of gas. SSS, non aero. But you have to look at more than power:weight. Look at real world results and dragstrip runs. The 2008s trap around 101-102mph stock, slightly slower than a stock VR-4, which had two more cylinders and a lot better bottom end grunt.

The 4B11 tuned loves to rev, just keeps making power to the rev limiter. That translates to good acceleration times.

I had a 2005 STi. I loved the car. It had a full exhaust and an accessport. It was quick sounded incredible and was fun to drive every day. Took it out in the snow on all seasons and was practically the only one on the road with the snow plows.

However, I think it's hella ugly compared to a Evo and they simply cost too much to modify and open source tuning solutions are not nearly as advanced as Evo software.

I sold that and picked up a 2006 Evo IX MR from my buddy with 9k miles on it. With basically bolt-on's and a tune I made 351 whp and 342 wtq. It was much faster and looked WAYYYY better. It also handled better.

I'll be the first to admit I was not sold on the look of the X in the beginning. It grew on me though and the interior was a huge step up. My buddy got one and after swapping parts for him and driving it from time to time; I strongly considered selling my IX for one. I had done every visual mod you could do to a VIII/IX platform. Chopped front bumper, JDM rear, lowered, aggressive wheels, etc. I had no interest exceeding bolt-on's and a tune. I basically ran out of things to do and was never totally happy with the way the car sat. Push came to shove, Mitsubishi offered 0% apr at the end of July and I pulled the trigger. Sold the IX to a friend that drooled over it for a few years and picked up a X that afternoon.

Handling is no contest. The X is a electronic handling beast. It's a noticeable difference, even on the street. I love the styling from the side. They fit aggressive wheels and ride like a feather-weighted tank. Sure its heavy but it's ultra nimble. They still have the money friendly bolt-on to power ratio. The interior is not amazing but it's a huge step up from my racecar inspired IX.

I considered a 2010 STI. Subaru is a much better company from a service/warranty point of view. However, it seems far too many engine failures occur and that's just way too sketchy at the mid 300 whp range. Plus the pricing is even higher than a X.

The X is a better car than a STI hands down.

I know the weight scales say the X is heavier but it's as fast in a straight line and faster around a track than an IX and at the end of the day isn't that all that counts? I know weight is the enemy but the car handles so much better than anything else in the price range and it feels so much lighter than the scales would indicate that I just don't see it as being a major drawback at all.

I played the darkside fence hopping game so I know what it's like to be on both sides of the fence. So I like to help people that are afraid to make the jump.

I will admit, I have always liked STi/STI's and wouldn't be against owning another one at some point in the future.

AWD FTW

I agree with this and your previous post completely. To me the two Evo's I have owned are on a different level in terms of performance vs. the STi. With that said I also wouldn't be against owning an STi again in the future.

Lol on the "evo x needs 350whp to keep up to the new sti" 350 whp are like mid to low 12's in the drag strip. So you telling me the new sti run 12's stock if it is then i would be trading in my X?
