Dash Shaking at all speeds.
Dash Shaking at all speeds.
Hello Everyone,
I have a 2008 MR with 3.8k miles. So three days ago I start to hear a horrible shaking sound coming from inside the dash at any speed. The sound is not from the glove box, but above it inside where I suspect the air bag is stored. I tried seeing if anything outside had come lose, but the problem seems to be inside the dash. The noise can be masked with the stereo, but when its off it seems something broke inside.
No mods or alterations to the car.
Anyone with advice?
I bought the car at South Bay Mits Costa Mesa 6 months ago new. Warranty covered?
Thanks.

I just bought a 08 GSR with 34k on it and I too have noticed that there are some shakes in the dash, while they are not overwhelming, they can be somewhat annoying. With the music off its easy to hear. I know the glove box is the reason for some but I can also hear it from above the gauge cluster near the drivers side window pillar and in the door panels.
I doubt the bumper to bumper 3 yr 36k warranty would cover that, and from my experience once you start pulling the panels and dash apart, the rattles only get worse.
It may be possible to pull out the gauge cluster and seek out some of these rattles and silence them... dont know yet though.
If you doors rattle, you may want to look into the TSBs in the Sticky on General X there is one about door rattles due to loose window bolts.

I'm sure the dealer would be willing to look at it once but after that they'll get annoyed with you. The Evo makes a lot of noises, it's not a BMW/Audi/etc.
Many of us bolt on noisy fuel pumps, exhausts, solid motor and drivetrain mounts, etc. This is the kind of car you take the stereo OUT of and drive it for the brutality and noise.
I think you'd be happier getting something else as a cruiser and let the Evo be a beast.

So it's on the passenger side above the glove box? Like everyone said all the Evo's rattle a good bit. If you really think something may have broke or think it could be related to the airbag than I would take it to the dealer just to put your mind at ease. If it is related to the airbag than yes it would definitely be covered under warranty.
Could be a rear wheel out of balance (unless your steering wheel is shaking on smooth roads, then it's a front wheel). Now is a good time to get the wheels aligned, too, to preserve tire life. If the problem persists go see the dealer .
