2010 evo x vs 2011 wrx STI sedan
I've driven the new STI sedan both on the street and on a track and while Subaru has made some good strides to get the STI into the EVO ballpark, it still falls short in many ways.
The EVO's steering is much crisper as is the entire driving experience. The STI still understeers (much less then previous gens) and doesnt feel as neutral as the EVO.
My biggest gripe with the STI is how laggy the powerplant is. For a 2.5L engine there should be no where near as much lag as there is. The EVO spools quicker and delivery power more linearily then the STI and that should not be the case.
The STI is much better in the utility (cargo space) and commuting (6-spd trans, comy seats) aspect but if you're in the market for a car thats going to be first and foremost a blast to drive around a track then the EVO is hands down the better car, in my opinion.

??? the jdm sti is faster than the evo X so i'm not sure what you mean when you say the STI is trying to get into the evo ballpark? and even with the laggy set up the times between the two cars are now negligible.. In terms of driving experience, yes the sti understeers and the evo oversteers but oversteering doesn't equal speed.. look how slowly the evo is going when they force it to oversteer

Even if they are head to head in acceleration and track times, for me the car of choice still the EVO for the reasons I stated above. Drive both on the street and around a race track, like I have and I think you'll agree with me.
And Im not just saying this because I own an EVO X, I have an 08 WRX as well and consider it a great car.
Another Evo + WRX family here. Both great cars, but I prefer the Evo any my wife prefers the WRX (and STI). Drive both and decide which is better for you; each have their pros/cons. The Subaru will be the nicer car (quality, interior, etc.) but the Evo will destroy it when it comes to raw performance and driver feel, plus is much more moddable.

So in 10 years, the Evo lost 2 seconds... How stupid does that sound really?
And stock comparisons... Really? Who drives a stock Evo or an STi for that matter anyway?

lol whoaa i caught a lot of crap for that while i was gone.
yes ej25 doesnt have the mod potential and ej207 is better.. but stock for stock the performance is actually very similar between the two.. STOCK. im saying this based on performance i've seen from the european market that had both the ej207 and ej257 for a while..
no jdm sti isnt available but you're still ignoring the fact that in this test, and most others i've seen, sti stock for stock is very close to the evo x
yes driving experience of evo has been typically better but you guys cant ignore the fact that the times between the cars, stock, is basically negligible and in jdm trim outted.. obviously its not the engine alone that's good if sti, with its wimpy stock suspension, is still matching the evo x and its sawc.. and just fyi im not saying this as a "ix" owner im just saying like in general these cars are way too close in performance for anyone to be talking crap
sti IS in the ballpark, ej207 or ej257, and always has been, until modding.
is my point
i'm really not looking to get into an argument about this.. i mean the test just showed how close these cars are and what else can you say about that? these two cars in particular oversteering or understeering is really just a question of suspension set up.. sti already has a drivetrain that is very capable of oversteer and the suspension is set to understeer.. im willing to bet if it was set up to oversteer it wouldnt even be any faster.
and that's all i said. of course the x blows the sti out of the water once modding comes into play because of the ej257
