No kidding. Who would have thought that suspension setup would alter handling characteristics. I'm not clear on how pointing out the obvious exonerates the STI for being an understeering pig? Understeer is inherent in AWD vehicles regardless of suspension setup. Cars like the EVO, certain Audi's and the GTR counter it with torque vectoring trickery. The STI doesn't have it and no amount of suspension tuning is going to change that. It can be improved but if we get into a modding discussion the EVO runs away anyway so what's the point?

yes ej25 doesnt have the mod potential and ej207 is better.. but stock for stock the performance is actually very similar between the two.. STOCK. im saying this based on performance i've seen from the european market that had both the ej207 and ej257 for a while..

no jdm sti isnt available but you're still ignoring the fact that in this test, and most others i've seen, sti stock for stock is very close to the evo x

yes driving experience of evo has been typically better but you guys cant ignore the fact that the times between the cars, stock, is basically negligible and in jdm trim outted.. obviously its not the engine alone that's good if sti, with its wimpy stock suspension, is still matching the evo x and its sawc.. and just fyi im not saying this as a "ix" owner im just saying like in general these cars are way too close in performance for anyone to be talking crap

sti IS in the ballpark, ej207 or ej257, and always has been, until modding.

is my point

i'm really not looking to get into an argument about this.. i mean the test just showed how close these cars are and what else can you say about that? these two cars in particular oversteering or understeering is really just a question of suspension set up.. sti already has a drivetrain that is very capable of oversteer and the suspension is set to understeer.. im willing to bet if it was set up to oversteer it wouldnt even be any faster.

and that's all i said. of course the x blows the sti out of the water once modding comes into play because of the ej257
I don't think anybody can doubt that the performance of the STi and EVO are very similar. They are two manufacturer's interpretations of producing the same turbo/awd performance vehicle.

But since I drive my car for the driving experience... and not to produce "numbers"... I think I chose the right car with the EVO X.

I think his point is... regardless of the details... the final performance results of the STi and EVO are very close.

Yes, the superior handling in the stock Evo is offset by a less favorable to weight ratio.
EJ257 is still junk, though.

I will never understand why one would feel the need to play with the paddles? Put it in drive and press the gas. The computer acts and thinks faster than any human ever can. If your going for economy put it in normal. Want to screw around on the street or track? Place it in sport.

Personally I'd love to see this test with an MR as well.

I like the new STi's, especially lowered with wheels. I'm picking up a red 08 wagon in a week and lowering it on BBS LM's. They're better daily drivers in my opinion.

i have no idea why. it doesn't make that much power, it loves to blow pistons, it doesn't get great MPG and even the torque is not that great. it is smooth though...

Sorry, not impressed. Because that and a reflash might net you a spun rod bearing, especially in a MY2008. Did you register just to join in the fray and come to the defense of your engine?

Volkswagen's FSI powerplant garnered similar honors. Now, some 4-5 years later, we find the motors suffering from a number of issues not supported by the factory. Awards are great, aren't they?

I like the new STi without the spoiler, but the lines are a little rough. Maybe one day when the 10 is paid for I'll add s Scooby to the stable for DD purposes...

I think the new STI sedan looks great or at least worlds better then the hatch. they even beefed up the WRX a fair amount. good for them. Evo and STI, both perform very close, both great cars and always have been but in the end, the evo is way more fun to drive. nothing beats the *** happy, precise, race ready Evo <3

My engine? Not anymore, but I did own a 2008 STI and I know that the 2.5 is no junk. I did choose the STI over an Evo X after all.

Anyway, since the STI is gone and I'm about to purchase and Evo I thought signing up on this forum would be a good idea.
