New Evo X smells like a tire fire

Jeez! I have almost 1000 miles on this sucker and it still smells like half of the engine compartment is melting. Anyone (everyone?) else experience this?

I had a 2010 GTS for a while before this. Drove it off the lot with 12 miles on it. No smell. So it's not a "Lancer" thing.

No, that would make too much sense. I always check the forums first.

My father just pick up a 2011 MR a few months back, it smelled like that a little bit but it stoped around 2000 miles.

You might want to get it check if its as bad as you say it is.

haha, yes... I've looked for melting things.. decided it's just breaking in. Don't take it to the dealership.. maybe this is just the extra power the '11 has that's burning off. lol, i kid. btw, I only notice this in my garage... my gt500 did the same thing

Last edited by cbr1000; Jan 25, 2011 at 05:33 PM. Reason: don't take to dealership

I had the same burning smell, but it eventually went away. I have about 2000 miles on my X now.

Its on my 2011 evo as well. Smells like burning tire. I checked and could not find anything wrong but checking these and other evo x forums it seems to be normal.

Okey Dokey. I'll keep rolling, checking my fluids and looking for melting... parts. Crazy

I'm scurred to put a Cobb tune on it when the '11 map comes out.

Not that that will stop me

Mine smelled for a 1000 miles or so. The dealer told me its common and due to all the coatings burning off. I'm not sure I buy that, but it's gone now.

I've had the same experience as well. Was freaked out initially but it has subsided since then on it's own.

I have the same smell in my GSR, but its definitely starting to go away. I'm at 550 miles right now. Only time I smell it now is when im sitting in traffic after shifting a lot.

I also called the dealership and they said some of the bare metal parts on the car are coated with oil for shipment to prevent rust and this could be giving off the smell (is this bs?)

I vaguely remember the smell, but I remember it smelled horrible when I got my new exhaust and the metal was baking... I mean breaking in
