is it safe to run fp black on stock block evo x gsr?
never seen any reason to run a black, unless you are dragging the car or want crazu up top power,,, Red all day long il take it for the spool low mid and top en power and fast spool
Is it safe? Sure, depending on how much boost, timing and fuel you try to throw at it.
Like Apagan01 said, make sure the FP Black is the best turbo for your application. Are you planning on building your block at a later date? Are you always going to stay on pump gas? These are some the questions that probably need answers before you decide on a turbo.
On a side note, I am not sure I 100% agree with Apagan01 about the spool differences. From the charts I have seen the spool between the FP Red and the FP Black on the Evo X are negligible. I could be wrong on that so don't go quoting me on it
. Also, I couldn't tell you about real-world transient response between the two turbos.
For what it's worth, I am also planning on going with an FP Black with mostly bolt-ons. I do have plans to build my block at a later date and will run conservative timing and boost in the meantime though.

Safe? It can be if you get it tuned correctly.
I think most people look at 8/9's when they assume the black is just a top end turbo...mine barely spools later than my red...see graph.

However, as Homwerk said, if you are staying on pump gas, go the FPred or even green or a bbx/lite turbo...much better pump gas turbos imo.
The transient of the two turbos is slightly noticeable and you do need to rev higher to stay in boost, so I would agree a black is a better turbo for a built block.

and what's better fp black or gt3076 or maybe gt35r???
im thinking on of those.... but here everybody mentions the black, red or green and not the others??
im planning to rum stock bottom in the mean while but later go with better piston and rods...

FPBlack is definitely a great stock frame turbo if not the best. It's indeed safe to use it on a stock block(with a proper tune of course), and in the long run you can build your motor and then use it to its max potential.
I decided to go FP black on my stock block with pump gas and meth injection. I did the normal fuel upgrades walbro 255 and FIC 1100's. my car goes in on March 18th to get tuned by AMS. I am undecided if I want a E85 tune yet or not.

Stock bottom end is..... risky. 500whp seems to be the general limit. If the car will constantly be at that HP target, new pistons and rods would be a very good investment.
From what i have read its not the HP but the TQ that kills the stock block. General consesus shows that 400 TQ is pretty much the limit on a stock block safely/reliably, but im talking about 8/9's. not to sure about X's.
1. Do the labor yourself.
2. It's cheaper than the labor and cost of replacing an entire short or long block after a stock rod makes a nice hole in the block.
