That is a silly argument. It's a 295 hp car. Otherwise I can say I am sick of people saying my ugo is a 80 hp car. Until I mod it. Now it makes 500. I understand it is much easier to pull power out of a FI car than a NA car if building on a budget. But we can only compare stock to stock. Once modding begins all bets are off and who ever has the most money wins no matter what the car. To make the 400 you void your warranty and lots of people dont like that. Personally I have found this is one of the most expensive cars to mod I have ever owned. Sure 1k might get you to 400 flywheel HP. But now you need a new clutch. And if you ever launch it a re-built transfer case. Our cars are silly expensive to make fast.

Put 1k into the 5.0, tune and 125 shot = still much faster that evo with 1k. Modding arguments are a waste of time.

Good points!! I may be an Evo fan, but I definitely think the new 5.0 is a better performance bargain. At the same time if I lived where there was a lot of snow or rain I would probably prefer an Evo.

You can't compare modified cars because...well they are modified. They aren't factory comparisons. It's ricer logic.

I've bounced between wanting a EVO, STI, or 135i for last year or two, and then when I finally saved up enough for one at the last minute I ended up getting the GT-- no regrets. Some reasons:

So for all the comments here about Mustang being heavy, its 3600 pounds. I wouldn't call it light but, these days, its pretty average. What does your lightweight EVO weigh? 2008 MR 3,594lbs? WTF? Actually I cannot find it listed anywhere on Misubishi's site, and everywhere you look is slightly different, copy and paste from another thread here:
X SE (per M/T) - 3563 (curb weight)
MR-T (per R&T) - 3690 (curb weight)
MR-T (per R&T) - 3855 (test weight)

What car is heavy? Even if a Mustang IS heavier, the EVO is heavy as **** as well. Nothing is 3200 pounds anymore.

Straight line, stock, Mustang is faster-- 365-375 to the wheels on avg? From a roll its no context, from a stop typical GT will be high 12s with non-retarded driver, EVO will probably be low 13s-- I'm sure some single person has done some awesome quarter mile run, but you can find someone with a GT who has done an awesome run as well. On avg I'm saying high 12s vs low 13s.

On a track, I'd say Mustang will likely win most of the time. VIR lightning lap this year GT beat an EVO SE by 2 seconds. On willow springs it matched a M3 w/compettion package. The live axle comments are fun and all but on a smooth track its not going to matter. The Mustang handles well (maybe not better but well) and has more power. Most tracks Mustang will win, IMO.

I drive ~60 miles a day, GT gets 26mpg, EVO gets 22 highway? Adds up. Hey and GT will even take 87.

AWD sounds cool, and it makes it easier to drive fast, but RWD is fun. I live in CA and it rains one month a year. Also, as someone who grew up in Chicago driving a RWD car, RWD in the snow is not impossible. Get some snow tires and you'll be fine.

Long term reliability... NA did tempt me.

Cost... this is another big thing that bugs me about EVO. How is it so expensive? I got a Premium GT + Brembo brakes + Glass roof for $34 even basically. It takes about 5 minutes of work to get a Mustang at invoice with no haggling. Also had I not ordered mine, I would have gotten another $750 off--- but my car ended up comming in 3 weeks early and it ruined my timing. (Basically you request brosures from Ford and randomly they have $750 coupons that are good for a short time-- easy to get if you buy off the lot, you wait for coupon to come and then go buy-- I ordered, so I had to try to time things so that car and coupon arrived at same time-- I failed.)

Anyways, comparable EVO... GSR + leather/sunroof = $38,600 MSRP. Not sure how far below you can get it.

Oh yeah and one other thing.... dealers think an EVO is a Ferrari. Ford dealer-- walked in and all I said was "Hey I wanted to test drive a new GT" and the saleman turned around to get keys. I ****ing hate car salesman, but how can I fault that?

Couple other things-- NA V8 @ 7000rpm it makes your knees weak. Microsoft SYNC is awesome. 6 speed is almost requirement if you want to drive around on freeway, wtf GSR? Downside to GT would be 4 doors is nicer than 2, at least for practicality. Tuning a stock turbo is a cheap way to make power-- although while this kept me interested for awhile, for a daily driver I am going to put tons of miles on, I care alot about reliability.
Weight meaning feel, response, and handling. My car hit the scales at 3510 pounds, hardly light. But when I say the new Mustangs are heavy, is because they feel terribly heavy, and don't have reflexes at all.

Check some of your stuff on pricing. You can get a GSR at many dealers in the vendor section for $31k. I got my GSR SSS 2 years ago as it had been on the lot for like 8 months for $29999 with 0% interest for 5 years.

I think the chassis difference is huge. The fact the GT only beat the SE by two seconds on VIR when it has a 100whp advantage speaks that the chassis in the Evo is no joke.

I'll also argue with 22mpg highway. I get 20 mixed driving when I drive hard, I've gotten slightly over 25mpg highway when I was traveling and interstate only without boosting a lot.

I have no beef against rear wheel drive at all, but roads aren't perfect everywhere. I want independent rear suspension in my RWD car. I had a 135i before, and really liked it, but it lacked the performance the X or even the new 1 M coupe will have. That would have been a great choice, IMO.

To whoever said you can put a nitrous shot on the GT and be in the game against the X on track, show me a roadcourse that will let you run giggle gas. If you're a drag guy or a highway bakery boy, I get it. Just doesn't tick the boxes for me, but I admit the engine is fantastic.

Both car is legendary end of the day. Buth in different worlds and market - interest.
And as I said before the mustang is vey capable car in the right conditions against the evo. Whic are hardly exist in the real life
Just a. Little bumpy roads and there goes the performanmce. Also all test reports heavy brake fading on it. So yes can run fast time but how long? You see in the video , evena mighty upgraded muatang hita speed bumps on california roads... So I'm not exactly sure which kind of handlig we talking about here besides almost perfect road. Also my truck has 391 hp so I don't know what is a great deal about the mustang 5L V8 400 hp...

Anyway , both has advantiges and cons. I think also it is perfectly different buyer market. Those evo owners who bought the evo for dragn made a same mistake as a mustang guys who will buy they car for circuit racing. (We are talking about GT) and so on.

Well put. I've never owned a Mustang before and I'm on my second Evo. Bias aside, I would absolutely be kidding myself if I didn't admit that the Mustang is a better performance bargain. No doubt. Any of you fools that are arguing that are....well.....fools. It's faster around a track, in a straight line, stops just as quick, and costs less. Explain how it's not a better value? Unfortunately, I absolutely need four doors, so the EVO fits the bill at this moment.

always been known to slip and slide. They are made to just dominate on the drag strip. My dad has a 2010 Challenger SRT8 and that engine noise is just orgasmic. Granted i beat him in a straight line(he's stock and the 4400lb

curb weight doesn't help either), and if there's a turn, i'll be GONE. With that being said my dad still loves his muscle car, because it does everything its SUPPOSED to do so well.

I love my Evo and would never choose a muscle car over my Evo, but that doesn't mean i wouldn't buy a Vette to mess around in.(which is sooooo going to happen, because vette's are sexy).

In conclusion, the best overall car is the Evo hands down, which still doesn't take away from the preformance and beauty of a true muscle car.

ps: lifting up the front tires is cool!!!!

Who knows why they're compared, but it's not because they are similair cars. I think it's because people that buy evos are the same type of people that buy ustangs.. we are all car people.. vs the people that buy trucks, or honda civics.

Can't drive it a fair amount of the year due to snow, it handles like crap in any weather, there a dime a dozen so resale sucks... I can go on, and on, but sounds like you're convinced we're all fools so I'll leave it at that.

How about the fact that evo is a rally car first yet it still gives a mustang a run for its money. Mustangs home the drag strip and evo keeps up pretty well. Now lets have the mustang go against an evo on some country back roads full of gravel and mud. : i live in michigan the reason i didnt buy a mustang is because there is nothing special about owning one around here."hey i drive a mustang" "hey me too" " me three" " my mom drives a mustang" lol

Sorry for any spelling typing on my phone

No, I didn't. Speaking from a performance/dollar perspective only, the Mustang is the winner.

I never compared them in practicality, exclusivity, uniqueness, or their capability in inclement weather. You don't have to convince me that the evo is a capable car. I own one after all. It does everything, and I stress the word EVERYTHING, very well. But in perfect conditions, on a race track, the Mustang wins. End of story.

People have driven them in snow for years. Snow tires do wonders. Is it as fun or as easy as it is in an EVO? Not so much.

I agree on the resale part and dime a dozen. No question they are belly button cars.

Can't really say that I disagree; the Mustang looks appealing to me, as well. There's one thing stopping me from from aiming for it, though I did join a Mustang forum; I know that I'm not nearly a good enough driver to be as quick point-A to point-B in the Mustang as I am in my Evo.

i was replacing a much larger more powerful BMW and basically wanted the best performance and power for the buck in the lowest price bracket. to be honest, the mustang didn't even cross my mind -- i guess i associate american cars as being all muscle and boat-like handling. i've also owned many american cars and found the interior fit and finish to hold up well for about 3 years and then its downhill.

at least my evo X SE's interior is so barren, there's not much to break -- even the recaro seats are manual . i should add that i am 6'4" and was pleasantly surprised at the fact that my head was not rubbing against the headliner, actually feels surprisingly roomy.

before buying the evo, i also drove a BMW 3-series, 5-series and an X5 during the past year. only the X5 which was the bigger 8-cylinder, completely optioned-out vehicle really had my attention (at $75K it kinda shoulda, right?).

as for AWD -- that was a big selling point for me. i live in the northeast and it is a serious consideration. i was also fascinated with the getrag dual clutch transmission.

That would be me. I was refering to the drag strip. I think that was clear. As I have never driven the new 5.0 on a road course, I really can't comment other than bench racing. But the numbers do look great for the 5.0. And I suspect given equal drivers on a clean road coarse the 5.0 will beat the Evo if both are bone stock. The biggest advantage the evo has in my opinion is its ability to be a car that works no matter where you live year round. That is hard to beat if you only have one car and like to go fast.
