RWD has inherent problems with high horse power stability. Look at the JGTC cars, all of them are decked out in aero parts just to hold 500 hp down on a track and their running with SLICKs.

If you plan to build a high horse power car, awd is the only way to go. Theres a reason awd is banned in racing (4 wheel traction > 2 wheel traction) its just simple physics. That said, if you drag race, im sure 125 shot will do the job, but really, why dont you get a 90's fox body and do the 10 second pass under 5 grand of total cost.

Actually, I would have bought a muscle car over a tuner-type car for numerous reasons, but I already own a fun RWD roadster (Saturn Sky Redline, with an extra 125HP), and now I needed a new daily driver.

The Evo wins because it will go in the snow. or mud. or anything. The Mustang skates around on the slightest of slush.

I do like your debate though, and in the end, you made the right decision for you. I bought for entirely different reasons, but came to the same conclusion.

In fact, my debate was Infiniti G37x vs Evo .... also not two cars you'd normally put in the same class.

Well seeing I recently sold my 2008 EVO X MR and am now the owner of a 2012 Mustang GT I feel qualified to speak on this. The OP has most of it down as the 5.0L is the superior engine but the EVO is the superior handling car. That said mine has the Brembo package and it handles surprisingly well for a big car and has a much nicer ride on the street than my MR. The Mustang interior in premium trim is a much, much nicer place to be as it's quiet and rattle free. I do miss the go-cart feel of the EVO though and the TC-SST as the MT82 is a flawed transmission in that when the weather is warm it shifts like a honda and when it's cold like a bucket of bolts.

I like both cars and IMO neither car is better than the other, they are just different. Mitsubishi cut corners on the interior and Ford cut corners with the Chinese made transmission and other areas (they don't even bother to paint the rear differential, axle tubes or brackets anymore so they turn nice and rusty very quickly). Overall I feel the EVO would likely be the more reliable car long term as Ford's done a lot of cost cutting to provide a car of this performance at this price.

One thing I can attest to is that domestic rice is alive and well. Whether it be fake hood or side scoops, gaudy stripes, tunes that mimic aftermarket cams at idle, clone wheels, etc it's definately a departure from a performance oriented community like the EVO. It seems like 90% of Mustang owers ride on either Nitto Invo, NT555, or v12 evo k110. God I just facepalm in the tire threads where someone asks for opinions of a sticky performance tire for track and I will say RE-11, Star Specs, etc only to have a bunch of posts after telling the op those tires are overpriced and the v12 evo k110 is just as good a tire.

I had a GT as a rental on a business trip in Dallas. The car was really fun to drive and sounded great at WOT. On the highway it felt like driving a mini van and I wasn't very impressed. Stop light to stop light driving was really fun because with traction control off you can spin the tires really easy. The handling made me miss my Evo though. It did make me miss RWD but where I live there is snow and the Evo is a tank.

I wouldn't trade my Evo for a Mustang but wouldn't mind driving one. With launch control though the Evo is more fun off the line. I do like smoking the tires but would rather grip and rip.

Angry

its funny because its the mustang owners who are always like "rice this and rice that, fried rice blah blah"
and a lot of their aftermarket support looks like big huge cheap ricey ornament crap.
i think they are really just jaelous of imports because they know the build quality is better.
i must admit i bought the evo to go up against them.

About 9 or 8 years ago i had a really nice 1991 integra hatchback ls 5spd.
The car was a one owner garage kept mint condition integra.
At the time the car really wasnt a beater by any means, it had an akiyama intake and eibach susp w tokico blues.
the car was beautiful ....it still had the factory sparkle in the paint job.even had the 92 gs rims. I was at a stop light in livermore ca off stanley and this guy pulls up in his brand new blue mustang GT(at the time 2003 or 02). He had his hot *** gf in the passenger seat . it was just me and him at the light.

The guy was revving his v8 and then light turns green and the he totally smokes me and then proceeds to toss his cigarette at my car when he jumped in front of me.
This was an traumatizing experience for me since i had no idea how fast those mustangs were at that time.

To be honest i was just heartbroken and humiliated.
Ever since than i had been on a quest to avenge my loss. The solution going forward was simple .modify my car to destroy mustangs.

Now they wont even look over at me in the evo, they dont rev their engine like they used to nor laugh and wave or any of that.
Do you know what they do now?
They run.
They run and hide.
When they hear the low pur of the evos 3 in turbo back exhaust they start literally turning off the road. even illegally.

My point is im tired of people who are bullies but then turn into pansies when someone is able to give them what they give to other "ricers"

All this for the Stoplight Grand Prix? Precious, really.

I think we've all been at the stoplight before... fun at times but really stupid every time.

Take it to a track and experience real fun.

Almost 30 years ago I was stopped at a light on my '76 Scirocco and all of its 76 horsepower. Next to me was a snarling, flame-snorting '70 442. The light changed and I accelerated. After a few seconds, I looked in the rear view mirror and he was still sitting there, not moving. Then his tires lit up and he blew by me like the proverbial rocket. It was one of the coolest thing I'd ever seen and I obviously still remember it to this day. This being said, I don't understand what you mean. Really.

lol.. ya?? wow.....
so i guess in some way or another we have all been there.
But i do see your point.
Honestly now i drive a 99 civic all around .
I only take the evo out on weekends and when i do i drive it very carefully.
Even my brother tells me i drive like a granpa.
I guess i just want to be careful.
I love that car.
I saved up for a long time and had to wait and find a non abused one to get.
I am so happy to have an evo and be apart of this forum and everything.

I think it's lame that the guy flicked his cigarette at you. I have to be honest though, I thought you were joking at first.

I don't know that I've ever felt "traumatized" by seeing a car faster than mine. Usually, they just get a thumbs up and a smile.

As far as the conversation goes, C&D seems to think that the mustang GT went around VIR faster than the X they tested.

Personally, I prefer the evo, but I believe credit should be given to the GT and its capabilities. I find it very impressive that they were able to get that kind of performance out the car.
