Evolution X vs 5.0 Mustang GT. Winner = Evo
Evolution X vs 5.0 Mustang GT. Winner = Evo
After long debate and research determining which of the two cars are best for me. My decision was made by the Mustang forums, as at the end of the day “Its just and Mustang, my mom has a Mustang. “ Behold the categories that I eventually ran the situations of have both cars in my head that lead to the decision. I hope this can help out anyone that is also debating obtaining Evolution X.
Engine: 2011 Mustang 5.0
The Mustang engine is amazing. That 5.0, raw torque, and 400+ hp is amazing. The Evo took a major beating here as these cars are under power out of the factory. The tune yes, but also the displacement. 2.0L ehh, they should of make atleast a 2.5 (like sti) to complement it.
Looks: Tie
This is a matter of opinion I personally think the 05-09 Mustangs look uglier than Katie Perry without make-up on, The new Mustang 2010+ looks better, looks like she took a diet lost a little weight now I can flirt with it. The Evo almost comes off as just OK, nothing really too eye catching like a 370, but still attractive (I’d hit it…twice)
Mod friendly: Evo
This was interesting as well, granted if you drop 10K into both cars the Mustang will still be faster, but who really has 10K cash, most mods start of as the bolt ons. So after the I/E/Tune run out then what Cams? Pullies? Seem to be getting desperate. In a turbo application you up the boost, fuel, and retune. Aprx every 1lb is 10hp , a lot cheaper than starting to change engine components, build/swap motors, or convert to a force induction set up. I really wanted a car that I wouldn’t modify or have to modify, but I believe I/E and Tune should be mandatory from the dealership.
Track: Evo
The Mustang suspension has been reported to improve despite still having the Live Rear Axle. I am not saying its hard to tune the suspension on a car that weights 3700, but theres a reason for the term “weight reduction”. The Mustang is a yatch with wheels and is not the best at turns and twisties. The Evo wins at the track!
Drag Strip: Mustang, evo close 2nd.
Numbers don’t lie, the Mustang is faster than the Evo in a straight line. If you only wanna hit the gas at 100 and do some roll racing the stang is great. I say 100 because smashing the gas while turning is not recommended. The Evo simply dropped the ball here, 13.6 from its older brother 13.3. They really should of made it run the same out of the factory. My 2.4L SRT4 runs 13.6, so Mitsubishi why should I back 30,000 for AWD?
Performance: Evo, Mustang close 2nd
This is the good one. While the stang appears to be winning in the performance war with the HP, Torque, and raw power, the Evo pulls this win out. If anyone is a serious driver you know you are not driving in a straight line all the time, especially while spirited driving. Loosing traction is NOT fun, yes a lil bit for show, but when it comes to speed loosing traction slows you down. Many times I have lost traction during spirited driving runs while under 60mph. Evo keeps its performance to the road! That is a big winner!
Price: Mustang
Ugh, Ford was smart pricing it at 30K so the average man can afford a nice muscle car. While the Evo I believe is slightly over priced, but only about 3,000, so it’s livable.
Uniqueness: Evo
This was the sell actually. After going through the Mustang forums someone asked “Which color…” someone responded, “it doesn’t matter as long as you make it your own” and later “that’s was separates our mustangs from the mustangs moms drive”
This is when I realized Mustangs are Found On Road Daily.
I wanted to make sure the Mustang was for me and while the look decent enough, as I was going through the members’ pictures and it was hard to find ones that I liked, many times I would look at the mustangs and think to myself why does this one look like this? Or so ugly? So fat? Body kit wtf? , etc. I don’t want to get a car that I have to rice out to make it difference and unique for me.
With the EVO the unique is a small factor and that not every mom and 16 year old is going to be driving them. If you want and Evo you probably have a greater knowledge of cars and appreciate the total overall performance.
Looking for input, for or against, my idea.

did you ever drove a tuned evo? The Mustang has a great power so as the EVO. As soon as you tune the evo the whole car is changing.
But the Mustang is always strong on engine so def, will be a stronger engine.
The mustang has a solid axle = lame. The brakes are fading fast in any road test.
Mustang sounds amazing, but the evo too, just different way. I think the evo actually even looks better inside.
But these are all taste related points.
It really comes down to which one you can look at , day after day, and which type of racing you are into.
If you like drag = Mustang
Road race = Evo
AutoX = idont know
Rally = Evo
I have to say the new mustang looks nice . The EVo is a very well rounded MMA fighter, doesn't matter if its rains - snows - dusty - bumpy the car constantly hard to beat.
The Mustang fell short on that.

First off like the mustang forum every one hear will say get an evo, because this is an evo forum.
I have driven both cars, the Mustang is pretty sick but the evo is much more of a drivers car in my opinion, it handles better and in bad weather its a much safer car with its all wheel drive.
Go drive them both, its your money but i would get the evo.

Compared to the previous generation mustang, I really like the new 5.0. That said, I'd never consider exchanging my Evo for one. Two TOTALLY different machines. Both are really good at different things, and the stuff the Evo is better at appeal to me. Simple as that. FWIW, I lapped a 5.0 at the track this weekend and my car doesn't have a whole lot done to it
btw, if you do get the Evo, check out the DC-metro evo club. http://www.ccevo.com.

I would agree with both of you guys which off course make choosing either one difficult.
if (drivers like drag )
car= Mustang
else if (driver likes Road race)
car = Evo
else if (driver likes AutoX)
car = Evo)
what bout if you like drag and road race and AutoX thats more interesting, still say the Evo
+1
BTW my minds already made up, this is for anyone else considering the same decision. Just trying to place a very vary large down payment

As for someone who owned a 06 mustang gt, I probably can add some weight to this discussion. I traded my mustang for a evo last month and haven't looked back. granted looking at stock numbers, the mustang took em, the sound was amazing especially in enclosed spaces (garages). But spend a winter in one and you quickly wish you had 4wd.. I slipped and slid and the only saving grace was that I grew up in snow in pa. Sure, 300 hp is nice, but I've gotten schooled so many times I've stopped even trying to compete with people.. not that's important...
Anyway, I love my evo. I love the sound of the turbo, and the quick pickup that I didn't get with the stang. I love how it corners better, accelerates better, looks better and just the feel of one.. yes I won't go back to a stang. Also have 4 doors and a TRUE back seat... let's say that any future passangers will thank me for the room.. and who doesn't like riding with their friends... so yes get an evo, because everyone and their mom has a mustang...

Nice review, I agree with it. I've got the chance to drive a 11 GT pretty hard, and the handling is good but it feels big, and tends to plow a bit, it has good grip but not like an AWD car. My STI with sway bars handles better then a GT for sure, and I've actually pulled one on the highway from about 60-120, and had him by a car. Granted, driver error could have been a problem. Ive hit 12.5@109 in my stage 2 STI, so the GT should still be able to get me from a roll, sicne they trap 110+ from what I've seen, what out of any stock Evo/STi league. I plan on getting an X within a few months, and honestly never even considered the GT, its a Mustang, so many people have them.
The fact that u had to think about and ask for opinons on weather u should buy an evo or a ford is SAD!!!! espically a mustang that ugliest most common pos on the road....unless it is elanor from "gone in 60 seconds" there shouldnt be a question on which car to get....btw the only thing good that comes from ford are there superduty trucks....i beat the **** out of my 03 f-250 crew cab when i plow and i haven't had to replace a thing.
First, nothing sounds better than a good V-8, and both the 5.0 and LS motors qualify.
I wish there weren't so many old men with automatic Corvettes out there.
Sometimes I wish they would sell only manuals....then this kind of comment wouldn't be so true. That being the case, a decent Corvette with a little help in the tire department will generally smoke an Evo at the track (all other things being equal). A 5.0 Mustang, while not quite a nimble as a Vette, will still hold its own with a decent driver.
For a daily driver, the Evo is probably the better choice (4 doors, better for low traction). For a weekend toy, I'll take the 5.0. Or better yet, a Vette. And cue the rage from the
diehards in the house.....

those that are hating on the mustang haven't actually TRIED the new 2011's. I tried v6 auto, manual, and 5.0
they are very nice cars now. They just didn't fit me at all, but the car was in no way bad. If I had any kind of appeal for muscle cars, I would have definitely considered it, but they are genuinely very good sport cars for the price

It's definitely a tough choice, both platforms have their strengths and weaknesses. What it comes down to for me is the rarity of the X. I can drive for weeks and months and not see another X on the road where as the Mustang is far too common to stand apart from the pack.
Good luck!
