Cheap Modding Tips

What up everyone? I am an EVO rookie and i was just wondering if some of you guys can give me a few tips on what I should do to get a nice increase in horsepower to the wheels, without sending myself to credit collections...lol...i would like to start off by dropping about $1000 into the car and eventually move on from there...Do you guys have any suggestions of what I should start out with for $1000...the tax return money is burning a hole in my pocket

Thanx

TBE, intake, 3port and tune. This could run a little over your budget depending on who's parts you buy. This combo would be a good starting point and put you close to if not over 300awhp.

Just my opion but I have noticed good gains from my TP, CB and intake.

a intake, boost controller and tune should get you over 300. I just put down 306 on STM's dyno with those mods. All in all right around 1g

testpipe back exhaust, downpipe is not worth it just yet. UICP and add a simple cone air filter get rid of all that plastic clutter. then get a tune with a 3 port. you will have better boost response and more power and it wont break the back
tsudo exhaust is like 300
turbo xs testpipe 120
simple intake around 100
tune about 400-450 <----get a tune from a good shop
3 port is around 100 or so
you may break 1k price but the 3 port isnt really necessary

good luck, check the FS section for good deals

I would rather get some really quality parts than trying to stretch 1000. I would get an exhaust and a testpipe and you'll be around, if not over 1k already.

IMO you should get a K&N drop in filter, UICP, and a custom tune from a reputable shop. That should get you going for under $1000. I only have a K&N drop in filter and a tune from RRE and I'm making 316whp and 336wtq. I gained 50whp and 72wtq from just those MODS. If I had a little more money I would've gotten an UICP also.
K&N filter = $50
UICP = $200
Tune = $500
Total = $750
...and if you must spend another $250 you could also throw in a short throw shifter for comfort purposes.

AMS Black Wrinkle Powder Coated UIP: $300
Greddy Ti-C TBE: $550 (In order for your set up to breathe properly you need a bigger than stock exhaust period.
Gimmspeed EBC: $90
Injen Intake $200
It's a bit over your $1,000 budget, but you can't go wrong with the above and but of course a tune also.

The list can grow quite a bit. It all just depends on what do you wish to buy currently/ first.

I think an AP/tune + testpipe + exhaust + filter will be plenty good if you are on a budget, but personally I would add another grand for a better exhaust..

just get a Access Port for 595 to start with and see how you feel, then decide from there....
you can use stage 1 stock without modify anything....

i'm in the same boat. new evo owner looking for a little more than stock power.

i think the majority of the previous post are right in tune with where i want to go too,

exhaust - found a nice used perrin stealth dual exit
drop in filter - not sure which one to go with right now
uicp - racing depot seems to have sold quite a few, wish they would add the couplers to the sale tho
test pipe- not sure yet on that.
tune- most impotant on my list, but i gotta find a reputalbe shop in my area could be difficult.
