Understood. You are also comparing AWD vs. RWD, which has a lot to do with it. The most fuel efficient non-hybrid AWD car in the country right now is probably the Subaru Impreza, which gets 20 city / 27 highway mpg, which is STILL worse highway mileage then a 500hp Corvette. Now factor in you are driving a performance oriented turbocharged awd car optimized for speed instead of mileage ...

Short gearing is the achilles heel of our cars when it comes to mpg. We cruise VERY high in the RPM band compared to other cars (zo6). Also, the fact that NA engines don't have to go pig rich under boost. It's a gift and a curse my friend.

In town 20-21mpg, on highway 24-26 @65-70mph. 80mph drops to 23.

I use the 42º timing in my cruise timing cells.

What RPM is the GSR at in 5th at 80 mph? What about the MR in 6th at 80? My S2000 was at 4,200 at 80 MPH in 6th.

So 80 mph is probably 3,800 in the 5spd. Does that mean the MR 6spd at 80 might be as low as 3,400 etc?

You get what you should have expected to get..

I just googled for these mpg numbers:

2008 Corvette,
mpg 16/26,
you're seeing 30.5
(17% above published specs)

2010 EVO X
mpg 17/23,
you're seeing 26.5
(15% above published specs)

So both cars are giving similar results on the same surface relative to their published specs....

And FWIW - my highway average is 24mpg, so you're beating me!

The AWD version gets 31 highway, 25 city, and 28 combined but still, it's better. By comparison the Audi A3 gets 21 city and 30 highway, and actually the Subaru Legacy gets 31 highway 23 city. The new 2012 Subaru Impreza actually returns 36 highway, should be the best of the best for AWD fuel economy.

Anyway, the point stands that these are all fine vehicles to get for fuel economy considerations - it is in fact one of their main selling points - but the Evo is not.

I understand the lower AWD MPG, I will try to compare the EVO to a AWD 10cyl
Lambo. Now, how much for a used Gallardo?

If I am seeing above published specs for mileage, how could I be using up so many tires? This is a stretch of consistant, flat, frequently patrolled, 45 MPH road for testing purposes only.

Under 100K now for a used Gallardo. Some rich guys that can pay cash for a new Evo MR touring loaded might be able to swing one

I'm getting the same with a stock car, just a cosworth filter and cat-back.
