Really? Bought my car new in feb of '08. I didn't have to replace a battery till a couple months ago. It was warning me low battery for about a year lol, but it still worked fine.
So anyway, I couldn't answer the poll cause, well, it's just a bad set of options in that poll.

Both of mine died within 12 mos.
Nobody has any idea of battery status when it was installed in the key. If it fails right away the dealer will probably replace. Otherwise, it's not an arm and a leg like everything else on this car.

I imagine the "Fast Key" transponder unit might burn batteries quicker.
I tend to leave my car keys on a bookshelf in my office, directly above the garage, so I was worried that the battery would get more drain.
I did check, and it does seem to be out of range.
(At least the doors won't lock/unlock with the remote upstairs.)
But it's easy to change batteries. I had to remove the battery from my spare remote in the parking garage, after I figured out that the car wouldn't lock with the spare remote in the trunk.
The good news is that it uses the same batteries as my garage door remote, available at most drugstores.
Took delivery on the car a year ago, and the remotes are still fine.
But -- related question:
How long do the batteries last in the TPMS sensors?
