Yea thats defently not normal. I get 20mpg in the city and 26mpg on the highway. On a full tank and all highway i get 323 miles on a tank. Then again, my car is a GSR, not MR.

The thing about this though, is I've heard of this on a couple of SEs, I'd really like to know the cause of this. Anyone else had this issue?

I usually get 20 mpg. The best I did was 25MPG, make sure you tire pressure is good. Then again I do a lot of freeway driving. heh

This isn't a mass-production issue. It's been mentioned by a few people, but not on a grand scale. Interestingly, it's all been 2010's that have heard the problem from so far.

IMO, there is something mechanically wrong with your car to get mileage like that. If anything, the SST is supposed to get better mileage (esp on the freeway) than a 5-speed.

Do you have a tactrix or access port? We may be able to analyze your logs.

My guess is you messed up something during the CAI install. Namely, either the MAF or you left off a vacuum hose somewhere and there's a vacuum/boost leak. This will confuse the ECU causing it to run very rich and drop your gas mileage significantly. Check over EVERYTHING to make sure there are no missing/open hoses hanging somewhere. If that checks out, check the operation of the MAF sensor.

If you don't have one, I wouldn't go down that road if you're planning on dumping the car, because then you're just going to have to dump the device for a loss too.

What alarms me is this:
Dealer says this car is ok.. and give it time wtf???maybe its this crazy auto trans i got do most of you drive the gsr 5 speed???
That is 100% complete BS. I would call mitsubishi and file a complaint. The number is in your owners manual. They can't just tell you to give it time, it's costing you DOUBLE of what you should normally spend on gas for the car. I'd go back there and demand they fix it else you're going to file a complaint about the dealer with Mitsubishi. There is a bumper to bumper warranty that you have right now. The documented EPA is 18mpg city / 23mpg highway. This IS an emissions problem at this point and the shop could get in BIG trouble for ignoring it if you filed a complaint with your local DEQ. Time to get nasty with them, as this is not right.

I just want to be clear, you're calculating based off of receipts, not what the mpg average is on the dash? The dash one is usually off.

Your dealership is telling the truth, just keep driving it and eventually your mpg will go up.

Think its a tuning issue. I have heard that even the stock maps from mits can be jacked up. I would get it tuned by a shop or get ecu flash and road a gunzo map in there. I would then feel free to smooth out your afr, then I bet you will get great mpg.

Do you have any issues filling the car up? Like does it stop the gas from going into the tank as if it was full. Also when you do fill up, do you try and get every drop you can or do you stop filling when the pump stops?

Reason why i ask is one of the issues i had on my SRT-10 Ram was the check valve in the gas tank/tube was stuck open, thus making the truck think the tank was full, not allowing any gas to be filled. My mpg went from 11mpg to 3mpg.

Once i figured it out, i went out to a empty road, got up to speed and just ripped the stearing wheel back and forth so the fuel would slosh around and hit the valve, hoping it would close. It worked. This could be the same issue on your car if you got no other ideas.

Believe me, it's not a thing. This isn't right. Something is definitely wrong.
