Why is buying a car so hard sometimes?
My brother worked as car salesman for years, I bought my first cars with him, I learned some of his skills and now I bought the cars for my family, the trick is: forget the window sticker price, try to find what the dealer is paying for the car, or the msrp number, from that point, start adding $500, $1000 and so one, until they and you agree. If they are crazy to make a sale, they will crack with $500 on top.
Stand up, walk around, drink a coffee, and walk a couple of times from the table, call somebody and make them think that is another dealership, so the guy that is making the sale (and waste one hour of his time with you) start thinking that his sale is gone, talk with your girlfriend in front of him that you should better get an M3.
Now. This system works for most of the cars, but when you are buying a “unique” car, sometimes they rather keep the car for another month and wait for the rich guy that is going to drop 10 grand’s in down payment and pay the sticker price so you have to work different, be nice, don’t push them so hard.
Also remember, not everybody can afford the monthly payments, maintenance and insurance of an evo, they suppose that you are somehow wealthy enough to let them make a few thousands.
Your experience would be even worst if you would be buying a GTR, here in Miami they won’t even open the car for you unless you show them that you have $20 grand in the bank ready to withdraw and allow them to make copy of your driver license. Plain and simple.
