The daily driver argument drives me nuts, too. It's as if the assumption is, who'd want a truly sporting car to drive every day? Err...me, that's who. Why wouldn't one want to experience the thrills of an extended performance envelope and the feel of greater control every minute behind the wheel? Sure, lots of folks prefer a less involving car to drive. Fair enough. The question then becomes, are they the people who should be buying and commenting on cars like ours?

Exactly, I am 35 years old but still feel like I fall a sleep when driving my wife's 4runner. I also agree above your "control" statement. This car is also extremely safe for a daily driver mainly because it is fast = maneuverable , handles better and stops better. It is also great for all weather conditions which is win win in my book. Maybe somebody should define the word "daily driver" all over again

Glad I came across with this post..
I was so close to finalizing a deal with 2011 Sti and 2 days I read something about ringland.
Used to have 06 Sti and didn't have much problems when I owned it. It was basically ecu tuned with dp and exhaust. However reading so much about ringland on newer Sti, I lost my hope for Subaru. And I remember seeing older subaru with 2.5 liter engines with headgasket problems and to me they simply don't like to address any issues. I am not too sure if Mitsu is same way but at least the Evo X doesn't have much problem as the Sti.

Probably going to pick up evo...Sti is already out of the picture.

Yup that boxer rumble is the one intoxicating note.. that is probably main reason why I was so attach to it.

Definitely getting evo over sti

That so called "Boxer Rumble" is the sound of inefficiency JDM STI and Spec C car don't come with an unequal length header ;] In other words, only boxer engine car that has that "rumble" is the USDM Sti

Well my plan was to change the whole exhaust system minus the catback since I have that already. So equal length headers, uppipe, downpipe and tune but as stated in my main point about ringland failures, you all have convinced me to go to the DARK SIDE!! Mowahaha..let you guys know when I sell my STI.

Bingo! You nailed it right there.

Coming from an 06 STI, the 2011 Evo X is an extremely composed and precise machine. Besides, Why have two different vehicles? Rain or shine, this car can take it daily and keeps a grin in your face.

If you're not busy around noonish today I wouldn't mind letting ya get a quick test in my '11 Evo X GSR. You'd have to buy me coffee and a Krispy Kreme donut tho and drive down south just a bit to Tacoma area. Just PM me if you're interested and I'll get back to ya when I wake up in a couple hours :P

I traded in my '08 STi a couple of months ago for a '11 Evo GSR and it was a fantastic decision. I felt the same way you did, hesitant to do anything to the STi due to rampant ringland failures, and a ****ty experience with Subaru dealerships here. If you want 350whp out of the STi you have to replace the turbo. If you want 350whp out of the Evo, you can get that from just bolt-ons and a tune. The STi was hard to work on, everything was cramped in there. I'd rather stick needles in my fingers than do another turbo/injector install on an STi. The Evo on the other hand, is a piece of cake to work on. Bolt-ons are easy to install, and most things are easily accessible. And it handles 10x better than the STi. I also prefer the smooth sound of the Evo exhaust. The burble from the UEL header of the boxers is overrated IMO. They sound like V-twins.

I got a great trade-in value on mine though, Subaru stopped production of STi's for awhile there, and the value on used shot up. I took advantage of that and I'm ecstatic I did! The GSR is amazing.

I had a 07 STI and now own a 11 WW GSR. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I was in a similar situation and was deciding between the evo and a 11 STI. Ultimately, the ringland issues steered me towards test driving a evo and I fell in love with the car. I also think the Evo has a much more appealing exterior appearance.

2 reason's why i didn't get an STI... first is all my bud's have or had them and i'm the type to be diffrent.. like buying a hyundai over a honda lol man did i get laughed at on that one. anyways reason two is when i was looking at getting one the interest rates were always way too high. Mitsu on some of their cars sitting at 0% evo was 1.9 and sti was 9.3 apr ..

third and not really a reason but my gf pointed this out as she's a school teacher..

STI = Sexually Transmitted Infection... lol she's like i wouldn't be caught dead in that car.

anyways test drive it. and you wont go back

Just got the GSR this past Tue. It's a awesome performance car!! However, if it wasn't for the ringland failure, I would have kept the '11 STI sedan. It suits my use & purpose better. And it feels like a $30k car.

I don't think you can have a blanket statement Evo > STI. It really depends on how you intend to use it.

Having said that, I can't believe the performance difference between the two. Wow!!
