Tow Hooks?

Blizzaks are on and it is snowing, but not accumulating today. It is only a matter of time before some spirited driving will put the X in a ditch or on top of a drift. Where do you buy the tow hooks for the bumpers or is there a better way after it really is stuck?

Thanks

I was actually just thinking to myself (After noticing your post) "What would someone need tow hooks for if they weren't racing?" You have enlightened me sir and I definitely see this as a valid reason for having them, especially if you are someone like me and go snowboarding when ever there is fresh pow or just like having some fun in the snow.

BTW aren't the Blizzaks just phenomenal in the snow? I know I love mine.

Becareful with those tow hooks. if you dont get them installed right you wont move your car but you will remove your whole front end. Most of what ive seen is ppl order the JDM front brace that has a spot for a tow hook already (only problem is some of the tow hooks out right now dont thread into the JDM brace or thread deep enough). but hopefully someone will chime in on how they did theirs, since i havent got mine done do to lack of tow hooks avaible for the JDM brace.

The front crash beam on the JDM-version has a threaded hole ready for installing a standard tow-hook. We got the crappy beam. There's some people around that will do it for you though. Just search around on evom and exf.

The front bumper brace. A lot of people who race remove them to save wait for racing but yes the brace on the USDM Evo is different from the JDM Evo. There was a thread on here a while back on where you could order one. And if I also recall the thread was also about installing a tow hook.

I have a set of Blizzaks for my 3/4 ton PU, night and day difference on ice or snow from the all season tires. Looked at a new diesel pick up, with the Mitsu dealer next door, thought about the Top Gear episode and went home with a new MR. Now waiting for the lake to freeze.

Driving on a frozen lake just sounds wicked as hell.

The thread that was mentioned earlier https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-tow-hook.html

I installed the Rennline universal tow hook pretty much like what is shown. Wasn't too bad and it is definitely functional. FWIW - I think it would be much more difficult to install the JDM beam, but I haven't seen anyone that has actually done it.

Looking at that universal tow hook just makes me cringe. I would want something that I knew looked a little more secure than that for pulling a 3400lb car out of a ditch. The JDM crash beam method is the way to go. You don't want to sacrifice price for ripping your front bumper off. Remember you get what you pay for.

I used grade 8 hardware and drilled through the crash beam - I don't see any problem with pulling the car by it. Of course plan A is to never use it.

Coming from being an engineer and have an understanding of fatigue stresses and vibrations even though what you did probably will hold up, I would rather have something that I knew was engineered to hold with a proper factor of safety.
