Your experience needed: what do others think of your Evo?
2. A mid-aged dude was treated like a prince by the girls in a bar after he parked his old Lambo in front of that bar.
3. I met a girl I like, but I was driving a Mazda3 that day. And she never really talked to me. 2 months later I happened to have chance giving her a ride, but that day I was somehow driving an Acura. Since then she's been very very sweet to me.
Ultimately, all this comes down to your own sense of perception, "It's not me; it's because I don't have a cool car." The sheer idea of women being superficial to such a degree as gender is beyond the absurd. When I was in school I lived off campus and didn't have a car. My dates would take the bus to my apartment. Tell us again where the cars come in.

Well, I *am* a woman, and I drive a base X MR, no touring package or leather or anything like that. I just like fast cars that handle well. I wanted the X MR for the BBS wheels, the Bilstein/Eibach suspension, the Brembo brakes with the 2-piece front rotors, and the TC-SST, none of which are available on a U.S. specification GSR, and for the lack of the wing, which isn't real useful in daily driving. My MR can pull a 90-degree curve marked for 15 mph at 50 without breaking traction. Try that in a Camaro.
Where I live, you can't throw a rock without hitting half a dozen BMW 1 and 3 series. Not to mention the Lexii and the Infinitis, and the Benzes, and the Volvo S40s, and every second car is a Mustang or Camaro.
But Evos and STis...not so much. I have seen only three Xs (two GSRs and my MR) and one X-style Ralliart, two IXs (one of those an MR), and one VIII around here, ever. No one I know over the age of 30 (I'm in my late 40s) has ever heard of the Lancer Evolution. My car gets mistaken for Volvos most often, with BMWs and Hondas running second and third. But the kids who see it *instantly* know it for what it is, and I've lost count of the thumbs up, and the waves, and comments at the local carwash.
I've never really had negative feedback, other than a couple of idiots in rumbling V-8 powered cookie-cutters that want to race at stoplights (Evos are road racers, genius, not 1/4 mile dragsters!) which I just roll my eyes and ignore them.

EXACTLY how it is where I live. All that is around are mustangs and camaros. Here is GA it is rare to see another Evo or even an STi, even though they are more common. I know of 3 other X's that are local to Augusta, two GSRs and one MR.
Most of my friends like it, they still think I should of went with an STI. I don't like the STI community they are mostly all fanboys and hate on Evo's. For me I prefer the interior on the Evo over the STI. Just swapped out the overlays and its perfect. I don't really care what people think about my car because it will smoke their hondas so they'll respect it either way.
My EVO has seen a couple of incarnations and the way it was accepted or rejected changed along the way.
Originally it was mostly silver with a dark hood. It was a salvage that I rebuilt the car from three different cars. Guys loved it, girls didn't even see it.
Later, it got painted black and white. Suddenly, women everwhere took notice and were continually asking about it, complimenting it and more interested in what I do with it. I was prepping it for the new rally season at the time.
Finally, it got all the sponsor decals, race numbers and all that stuff... It became invisible to women again and became a total guy magnet.
Same car, no visible structural changes. What I concluded from all this is that
1 - anything that screams stereotypical mods (the dark hood) is perceived by women as adolescent. The more cosmetic mods, the bigger douche baggery is assumed. For guys, it is seen as Dick wagging.
2 - women respond to color CONTRAST, while men reject it. Women also felons to colors or elements of colors than highlight the contours of the car. The curves, bulged and design elements are much more prominent with certain accents and colors. Women notices them when the cat was black and white, but NEVER saw them when it was silver.
This might account for some of your experience with European cars... The shape is much more prominent and accented by design elements in those cars, regardless of color. I think they are responding to shape and style.
Honestly, a stock 8/9 shape gets lost in the sea of black, silver or gray. X's shape is much more prominent and the design elements accent the shape more. X owners in this thread are getting different responses than 8/9 owners.
One thing remains constant though... All perceptions change once you put a skeptic INSIDE an EVO for a short, spirited drive. Men or women, the EVO makes them giggle... And then you've got them.

BMW=Chick magnet
Evo=Dude magnet
Civic=Ricer magnet
2007 Civic Si=kid magnet
If the OP is buying a car just to impress girls, he is on the wrong forum. As has been so sagely said, buy the car for YOU! If you enjoy the car, who cares what others think?

I'm a girl and I have loved Evo's since the first time I saw one. I got my X in 2008 and I have been so happy ever since. I love cars and have a deep appreciation for all different makes but the Evo has always stood out to me the most and that is why I bought it, definately not to impress anyone else...
1. Most common response: "What is an Evo?" followed by "Mitsubishi makes cars???"
2. When I had my IX, it was "You're car looks like a shopping cart"
3. With my X, every now and then some dude will come up and chit chat cars and mods with me. They are usually really cool and polite, as genuine car enthusiasts should be.
4. Girl riding in my X with coilovers: "this car is making my ***** jiggle and it feels awful"
Conclusion: This car only attracts 20-24 year old guys and police.

Every valet in Boston I have handed the keys to will comment that this is the favorite car the have driven. It almost never fails. Girls have no idea but their boyfriends are always checking it out. Maybe that might be an in... distract the boyfriend and takde the girl.... Mitsubishi is smarter than I thought.
Side note: there was nothing better than lining up next to my friend just after him getting a brand new 2009 335xi for 60k and smoking him. That is what I enjoy most about my car.

The OP asked "What do OTHERS think about your Evo"
Not "Tell us if you care what others think of your Evo".
I've always laughed at anyone who says "I don't care what others think of my car"--it's a natural, defensive response but it isn't true.
If you didn't actually care what others think of your car:
a. Why would you post pictures on a public, internet forum?
b. Why do some of you dream of putting your car into car shows?
c. Why do you spend so much time cleaning your car just before going out for a drive on the town, going to the club, going to school, etc?
I LOVE cars and fixing them up but I don't delude myself into thinking I don't enjoy it when others compliment me.
Usually people who continually declare they don't care what others think of their cars actually mean "I went out on a limb on a design, wheel choice, sticker bomb idea that I've discovered is polarizing and usually receives negative compliments. To save face, however, I will declare that I don't care what others think".
There are GOOD ways to modify cars and there are BAD ways to modify cars. Unless you keep your Evo in your garage 24/7 or wrapped up in trash bags when you're driving it, yes, you care even a little bit what others think of your Evo.
It's a high performance, high attention getting vehicle. People DO have opinions on what you're driving. So answer the question instead of sidestepping it.

When people see my car they just don't understand what it is or it's just some fancy body kit on a 4 door. I have a 335i sedan and the Evo and they get all excited to see the 335i but shrug at the Evo because they don't know what it is lol.
To the OP, I think you need help...I suggest Lavalife or eHarmony....Every post you've made on this thread reminds me of Steve Martin and Dan Ackroyd as the "2 Wild and Crazy Guys" on Saturday Night Live.
