Forgive me for learning slow and late, I recently realized that fancy-looking cars, such as Ferrari 458 or Lambo Gallardo, give you significantly better odds than cost-efficient performance cars, such as Nissan GT-R or Mitsubishi Evo, if you, say, go to upscale clubs looking for supermodel-hot girls. It is so even though GT-R and Evo may be the best choice in their price range.

Hence it inspired me to reflect what people may actually think of Evo owners. I've learned some real world funny stories that some people take Evo as Lancer, M3 as regular 3 series, or even Porsche 911 as VW Beetle (can you believe that?).

But don't get me wrong. People these days are becoming enlightened and well informed about cars. I've met a young little Chinese girl telling me to have a scan of Nurburgring lap times before going for cars; and my English writing professor in the old days: a mid-aged white dude, looks perfectly like a lawyer you may see in the congress, is incredibly knowledgable about the STI and a big fan of that car.

My question is: what do people think of your Evo? Do they see it positively, as you've made the master tech's best choice, or negatively, as you're too loud/driving an Asian car/potentially unlawful? Do the majority of them recognize the reputation of Evo, or have little idea of what an Evo is? Do they consider Evo is only for guys, or think it is nice for both guys and girls?

1) BTW, this not about me considering buying a car or selling a car or whatever. And I'm not posting this thing to assist any decisions of mine in the real world. I'm just interested in this social phenomenon and want to hear your opinion. So share what you think and have fun.

2) The reason why this phenomenon inspires me: I originally didn't believe people judge others so heavily base on what cars they drive, because, as you can see, people are being hypocritical on Yahoo Answers and claim they don't care what others drive . Later my mind was completely blown because of some new experience: 1. I went to hang out with 3 guys and 1 hottie, and the girl got so much hots from a M3 guy after riding on him..... oh, a typo, I mean, his M3 convertible. 2. A mid-aged dude was treated like a prince by the girls in a bar after he parked his old Lambo in front of that bar. 3. I met a girl I like, but I was driving a Mazda3 that day. And she never really talked to me. 2 months later I happened to have chance giving her a ride, but that day I was somehow driving an Acura. Since then she's been very very sweet to me.

 

I've shown pictures of gorgeous Evos to many many girls, and not one of them have liked it. They all think it's nothing special. Then I show them a base E92 328i and they start drooling lol which is pretty ironic considering there are probably more E92's on the streets than Lancers and Evos combined (or at least in SoCal).

On the other hand, I have noticed that the Evo is a huge dick magnet. Almost every "car guy" (or at least they say they are) love the Evos I show them. I think for similar performance cars in this price range, a Z34 would attract way more girls than an Evo. Sucks huh..

 

Just another 4 door Sedan, nothing special. Exactly the reason I love it so much. People who don't know, don't care. Really, do you need your life validated by the car you drive?

 

Some kid in a stock 03ish Camry pulled up next to me, nodded his head, and took off. Im pretty sure he thought it was a lancer with a wing lol.

 

I really don't drive the car for others to appreciate. Drive it because you like it. Some people hate it and others love it.

I bought it off Jeremy Clarkson's recommendation. Never test drove it or even saw it in person. Bought it sight unseen and it has been a wonderful car!

 

^agreed. I bought mine because it was one of the most fun cars i've driven. I enjoy waking up everyday knowing I get to drive my Evo haha no offense or anything but I honestly could care less what other people think of my car, I love it.

 

Same here - not even a test drive, and only saw one in person. (always wanted one, but I take anything Clarkson says with some skepticism).

Anyway, some people love it, some hate it - and most don't even know what it is.

Since you've compared the Evo X to a 458 Italia in previous posts (as another poster said, you're really comparing apples to penguins here).. if you've got the cash just buy the Ferrari and good luck trying to pick up super models.

If you're just pipe-dreaming about the 458.. buy the Evo, and have fun meeting all sorts of random dudes that like cars.

If it helps, think I remember reading a recent study that said women are more attracted to men that drive European cars.. so if that's what you're after in a car, just buy a BMW or Mercedes and call it a day. Or if you want something sportier, go for an M-series or AMG variant instead. Or maybe just try a different aftershave.. it's cheaper

 

I don't know about others, my IX is not equipped with the crystal ball options package that allows one to scan the minds of those looking at the car. Perhaps Mitsubishi offers one for the X.

 

^ my 71 caddy came with a disco ball and an 8track with best of johnny cash stuck on Boy Named Sue. Who cares what you drive.. I have had a slew of 100$ to 1000$ cars. they were lots of fun, I didnt care what happened to them. I let people eat in them, stand on the hood, roof, park at the mall or next to other cars. its not the number that makes the player its the player that makes the number. The cars you mention are like the ladies and people they market to .. shallow,fragile,emotional,high maintence and gaudy.

 

I like my car and don't care what anyone thinks abut it, it's mine not theirs. Yeah it's fast and looks Sikk but currently sitting in the garage bc it can, people tell me to finish it but it'll be done when it gets done haha patience is key.

 

In my experience, chicks like the color of mine, but the attention comes from car guys. I get alot of it. I think the X is SEXY...I'm always doing the turn and look when I walk away from her. Girls don't give a rats *** about the Evo, as has been mentioned it's a dick magnet, not a ***** magnet. The only comments from women, as I said, have been "Cool color" or something to that effect.

 

Everyone I've spoken to tells me I'm crazy for spending the money on my X. It drives me crazy how many times I get "bro for that you could've bought a 3 series or G37". I love my evo and have zero regrets! Also will NEVER get tired of peoples place when I blow past them on a turn lol. Evo X ftw!

 

This is me to the T. Also why I took the wing off. I don't need a car to get me chicks I can do that by myself. I wanted a performance oriented car that at the same time can be invisible amongst the general public.

I also bought mine based on reviews and paid a guy in south Florida to ship it to me before even seeing it in person. Most nerve wrecking week of my life waiting for that truck lol

 

Because BOTH those options are amazingly better... /sarcasm

 

3 series reminds me of super sweet 16s and G37 reminds me of old lawyers that think they're cool.
