What do you mean he "ruined it"? He slipped it a few times? He learned how to drive on your car? How long did he drive it for? What did he do specifically? Clutches are meant to handle abuse, they won't fail after a few slips. Slipping it heats up the disks and burns off friction material hence the smell. That's normal when you slip a clutch.

I think you take the responsibility of letting someone else drive your X. I wouldn't make your friend pay for anything because you decided to let him drive it. Like the above post says your clutch will probably recover and the smell will go away. Or worst case scenario your clutch was ready to go out and your friend just finished it off. Either way I would not let someone else drive my car and blame them for something.

ehh... my friend did the same.. at about 20k miles.. he decided to peel out in the parking lot... the result was my clutch slipping the very next day..

I ended up buying a new clutch.. costed over 1000$ total.. and now, nobody drives the Evo unless I know they own a manual car.

I can't believe that your friend drove your car one time and he ruined the clutch. I don't think thats possible. Even if he slipped the sh*t out of it there should be PLENTY of clutch left.
