what can i do without voiding my warranty
There is a federal law on our side - the Magnuson-Moss Warranty - Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act of 1975
Under the act, aftermarket equipment that improves performance does not automatically void a vehicle manufacturer's original warranty, unless the warranty clearly states the addition of aftermarket equipment automatically voids your vehicle's warranty, or if it can be proven that the aftermarket device is the direct cause of the failure.
I haven't read through Mitsu's warranty word-for-word, but with that said dealerships I've dealt with will generally try to blame your mods if you go past the usual (catback, intake, appearance...)

I bought my 2011 brand new with 40 miles, only has 3000 now... I've been worried about voiding my warrenty as well, but you can only do that for so long. It comes to the point when you have to realize you bought this car to have fun, not keep it 100% stock. So far I've done little mods, and if worse comes to worse and an issue comes about, I saved all stock parts and had the stock tune saved for me.
Yes, I'm familiar with the Magnuson-Moss act.. but I'm also familiar with story after story of members here getting the run-around on various warranty repairs from Mitsu dealerships, reps & corporate itself.
Just because we know the law doesn't mean that we also have the extra time, money & legal resources to fight Mitsu when they deny a warranty claim.
Sometimes they're cool about covering an issue, sometimes they're not.. it just seems like a crap-shoot in my opinion.

Well that's against federal law.

Exactly! I said I wasn't going to mod... I now have ETS intake, ETS UICP, and Megan Cat-back. You can easily bolt the stock parts back on if ever an issue arrises
Am I understanding this correctly.
You don't void your warranty in replacing stock parts with aftermarket parts, which should be properly tuned when installed, but having any tune on the car voids the warranty.
Aren't you always suggested to properly tune the car for selected mods?

careful what intake you choose some have altered the diameter where the MAF sensor sits and changes the dynamics that the ECU is reading for intake flow and what not... As i understand it tuning these particular intakes with the different diameter pipe at the MAF sensor point becomes more tricky. obviously a pro tune would have no problem regardless.
