Evo Vs. 3 series
I haven't read all 10 pages so forgive me if this has already been pointed out..many are comparing the 335 to the evo x however there is almost a 10k price difference between these 2 cars. So yes you get luxury and speed but it comes at a price..the only 3 series you will be buying for the price of an evo is a 328
From the examples given so far in the thread, the "impressive technology" has nothing to do with the drivetrain. They are all referencing shiny lights and buttons in the cockpit, which BMW definitely gets a large edge on. On a side rant I'm still really disappointed that Mitsu still doesn't provide auto-dimming mirrors as standard, those things come on every car these days; they can raise the MSRP by $200 w/ better visors and rearview mirrors (my old 2004 Corolla had better ones for OEM)

, but i forget all about it when i go for mountain hill drives
. off topic but do most of you guys get static stepping out of the evo x if your wearing sweat pants?
Like others, I haven't gone through the 10 pages so I'm assuming the topic has been beaten to death. But I might as well interject my opinion since I have both. Love just cruising around in the 335, it's comfy and and is a great DD with actually pretty good gas mileage. With that said, if I had to choose I would choose the Evo. Love the rawness of it and i just feel more connected to the road if that makse any sense. In the end it's all personal preference.
the evo is gonna be a way better performance car. as soon as you drive one your not gonna want to drive anything els and im sure everyone on here will agree.. the bmw is gonna have a nicer "ride" but if your like me and just tryin to pop ten g's in the corners
the nothing can do it better than an evo
Although this comment was pretty inflammatory
I think the point is still important. Plenty of people think they want a performance car but then don't want a loud cabin, want upscale interior materials, want a car to show off to their friends/family, want a refined quiet ride, want a bunch of features such as electronic side bolstering or an iDrive system with thousands of adjustments, etc.
Plenty of these people step into Evos and are extremely disappointed. You really need to take a step back and understand if performance is your top priority, or if you are OK with a car that can merge onto the highway extremely fast, but otherwise is a mundane driving appliance to get from point A to point B.

lol i had to laugh at the kia comment.. since my sister in law bought an Audi A4 from the dealer slightly used. interior from what i was told was Brand spanking new. Anyways on to the point.. she drove half way home and lost power then POOF flames came out of the hood and then the dash then the tires popped . My bro and sister in law are fine but goes to show ya not only Kia's start on fire.
I've personally done the whole euro car to death.. their usless as tit's on a board and cost twice as much to maintain.. even then the dealer will mess up a fuel filter service and cause your audi to go up in flames. We all know japanese cars are easier to work on. parts in general are also cheaper.. just get a decked out gsr with all the bells and whistles. then get the under coating. as it helps with the noise. If i can drive my mother in law around in my evo mr and have a complement on how nice the interior is.. as well as her friend asking what kinda bmw this is.. then i'm sure you'll be fine.. because really... How many people really know what your driving anyways? besides you? lol i gave a dude from work a ride home. who's a 18 year old, first year plumber apprentice; who thought i drove an acura csx... what i'm trying to say is the average person doesn't know what an evo is. nor do they know what anything else is.. if they see a bmw badge they know it was expensive... if they see a mitsu badge they know it was cheap.. same goes for hyundai , honda etc etc All in the marketing..

My 2 cents:
I've owned two Mitsus so far (RA and EVO)
A close friend has owned four or five (including an EVO VIII)
Combined, we have had no major problems over the course of 15 years of combined ownage (yes, I said ownage).
Our other friend bought a 335i. Out of five months of ownership (he turned it back in under lemon law), he only actually had the car for about two months. The other three months were spent with the 335i in the dealership shop, and half of that time he spent driving a Corolla as a rental car.
That anecdote is just meant to illustrate that "reliability" isn't as cut and dried as it may seem.
My opinion: Drive both. See which one you like best. Determine which suites your life better. The Bimmer is a city boy's car. Good for cruising around town, picking up shallow chicks, and impressing coworkers. The EVO is a driver's car. Inclement weather? Mountain/ski trips? Track days? Get the EVO.
To me, the 335i screams conformist poser. The EVO is 100% unapologetic.

Drive both, as others have said. Personally, my choice is between an Evo X and a Nissan 370Z. That's what I'm struggling with, but that's different than what most people here seem to try and decide between.
Two different personalities, two different missions yet they both can carry 5.
Then one statement I do endorse is the fact that no matter what weather, the X takes it like a champ. (with the proper tires, of course).

As long as they are talking life is good. I love when people talk. If they aren't talking it means the car you are driving is BORING!!
As far as BMW, I have had a 330, a 550, 535, and my girl has a 1 series. Beautiful cars inside an out. They have a cool image as well. But they lack the excitement of the Evo. Of course a new M3 would be a great choice. But you aren't getting a new M3 for the price of a new Evo. I was actually looking at M3's before I got the Evo and realized I too would have to go 4 or 5 years back to get the same price range. The bang for the buck is 100% with the Evo if you have to go that far back. Heck it may even be with the Evo if you could afford a new M3. Think about the Evo you could have if you dropped 80k on it?
The cool thing about the Evo is it DOESN'T have to be fully loaded to be cool. I swore nothing but leather seats for me. And all my cars had that, up until I got the Evo. The Evo has such a "race" feel to it, I felt going fully loaded would ruin that feel. If you ever looked at a "race" car they are far from fully loaded, more like fully UNLOADED. But that is me. I was done with the luxury feel and wanted a more hardcore feel to my car. Heck, if I could I would remove most of the interior but my fiance would chop off my *****! Actually if I am worried about her chopping them off she must already have them so forget that statement.
I don't think you will be disappointed either way. I have always been a "BMW" guy. But once I drove the Evo I was in love. It's hard to describe but there was something pure and hard edged about how it felt.
And besides, the city I live in, BMW's are everywhere. No exaggeration, EVERYBODY has one. I have seen ONE Evo since I started looking out for them.

I have a few questions for you guys.
I am graduating in June so in my family the gift is a car (down payment). I've always wanted a 335xi or an m3 (m3 not in my budget at all, would probably go 4 years older model). I've always liked Evo's but a lot of people talk **** on them. The auto show was in Philly and I saw the new Evo and fell in love with the look but how does it compare to any 3 series with performance? I want manual transmission, wouldnt mind getting a 2011. I've heard great things and then i've heard that they break down a lot (mitsubishi in general). The 2012 Evo MR fully loaded is maybe $6,000 over my budget. I want my car fully loaded which makes an m3 impossible to get. Another I was looking at was the Audi A5...what do you guys think?
PS. I dont have much knowledge with cars....I currently own a Kia Spectra 2007....

Just out of curiosity, I wonder which car would be quicker around the track with a relatively NOOB to tacking their car? Do you think the Evo would have a chance because of all the assistance it gives you if the same NOOB would try both cars on the track?
I felt entitled to write a post after reading all ten pages. All has been said. Buy a jaguar
