evo hands down. never driven my 335 on the track, but i've got loads of experience in the evo. i've driven a track prepped spec3 e36 325is at the track. it's pretty well balanced but doesn't make up for your mistakes like the evo does. evo makes you a superhero at the track

btw, saw this on one of the other forums. Vinshu's been working on a turbo upgrade for the n54-based 335i's. The twin turbos are great, but being small and single scroll, you end up with a little more lag than is needed, and are limited in tuning with the small turbos. The n55 switched to a faster-spooling larger single twin-scroll turbo, with more high-end. Vinshu's making a twin-scroll single turbo swap kit for the n54

With a 100% stock car with just their twin-scroll turbo, tune and their methanol kit, plus upgraded clutch+flywheel to hold the power. They've officially blown my mind! They managed 627hp, 477ftlb to the wheels, stock!!!! Oh, and this is their middle kit which shroud be good for another 100whp! they have a bigger one that should be good for 950whp.

Without meth injection, it's still really impressive: 436hp, 428ftlb!

stock intake, stock exhaust, stock downpipes, stock injectors, stock fuel pump, stock boost control. stock internals

i love how they got the fuel gauge to display boost

I think some of the comments regarding so called unrelaibility of Evos are unjustified, and those very same people would probably break cars of any manufacture.

Stretched timing chain? Serious?

You have to be doing some HARD launches etc to do that.

Ive got over 60,000 miles on mine without one problem. And Ive driven coast to coast several times literaly. In some extreme conditions ie over 110 F and 60 below 0 F. I once drove it 25 hours straight with only stops being for gas etc.

I havent tracked it, or raced it. But it hasnt been babied either. It has been well cared for, and professionaly maintained. But nothing other than routine.

Amsoil and Mobile 1 filters FTW.

Not one problem.

I think an Evo would be a great car for you.

A 350 or 370 would do very well, as would a G35 or G37 coupe.

Also, consider a WRX or STI. These are very solid cars as well as I can testify from personal experience.

After having driven and owned various makes and models foreign and domestic, Japanese cars manufactured in Japan will earn my money everytime-

The more money you throw at something the less you have to compromise potentially (except you are comprising on total costs). I have had many different cars over the years and to me, a more performance focused over luxurious car is what I like. Here are my opinions of the cars you listed:

EVO = great handling, looks, seats, power, and mod-ability: compromises = gas mileage, luxury, trunk space.
335XI = good handling, looks, luxury, easy to power mod: compromises = handling as suspension is more for comfort, mod-ability besides power = costly, maintenance outside of warranty = $$
A5 = decent handling, awesome interiors, luxury, looks: compromises = handling as suspension is more for comfort, tend to understeer more than others listed, mod-ability = costly if not T model especially), maintenance outside of warranty = $$
M3 = great handling, looks, luxury, power: compromises = rear wheel drive only, costly maintenance, mod-ability = costly + harder to add more power (although very powerful to start)

For me, the EVO gives me everything that I want. Ability to carve up a road, add power for less $$ if desired, looks good, goes fast. I only drive 10 miles each way to work on back roads and it is a blast every day. I have the luxury of also having a pickup truck to haul shiz around + my wife's CX-9 to take on long trips when comfort is more of a concern. I have had Honda's-->VW's-->Audi's, and BMW's prior to my EVO and don't regret which compromises I "made" for the EVO. I only have a GSR since I have grown even less concerned with interior niceness / prestige and such (although I once did having driven German cars most my life).

In your case not really having had a performance car in the past, you will enjoy any of them but honestly if you are unsure, I bet the 335XI would be the most rounded of them all simply because it is a jack of all trades master of none type car. (read more balanced compromises while still fun / fast). It's really a personal thing that you have to decide for yourself what you like / prefer. You will only be disappointed that you didn't get the EVO if ultimate performance ends up being your most desired thing you want from a car without spending a mint.

Good Luck - wish I had your "dilemma" when I was younger.
+1 billion.

I'm visiting La Jolla California. DAMN, every other car he is a BMW, Merc, Audi. All the others are Porsches, Audi's, Bentleys, RR's, and Ferarri's. I even stopped in a shop to see 3 Bugatti Veyrons.....my first up and close experience with them. After talking with the salesman, I showed him my Porsche & BMW racing licenses. He offered me the opportunity to buy one of the Veyrons for $2.3 million.

Per this thread, BMW's are great. However, I have seen and am hearing more about their reliability issues. I love BMW'sand hate to say these things. In La Jolla, a MR drove by and I chased it down the block just to see it.........and I instruct/race in German cars all the time.

EVO X: drivers car. BMW: status and almost a drivers car.
