Lots of good information on here. I will go in and negotiate hard. Another question: Do you think it would be too much asking for one or all of the following IF a dealership is very firm on their price:

1. All fluids be replaced FREE before I drive off.
2. New brake pads.
3. New tires

I know these (rotors and clutch too) are the most replaced items on the Evos. If dealer has car listed for $27,000 and only willing to come down to $26,500, I don't think this is TOO much to ask for (especially pads and fluid).

My HOPE/PLAN is to get an Evo X for no more than $25,500 OTD (tax, title, license included). I will finance $20,000 (I get 1.99% APR from my credit union) and pay the rest in cash. I also got a quote from Geico of $68/month for full coverage (being over 25 and married really pays off . . lol) so my overall fixed costs to own this car will be lower than expected.

you should definitely be able to get down past $26,500...the car is five years old and has high(er) miles...and in my opinion, edmonds sucks for trying to figure out pricing. One dealer was using it to low-ball me by $3k on my trade-in, said no and walked away. Found another dealer the next week who was willing to go with my asking price for the trade...my thoughts and opinions. i use KBB and NADA

You might get #1 but you might be better off getting it done elsewhere. It might be wise to hold back some cash if #'s 2 or 3 are required. I got #3 when I bought my VIII a few years back, but its not normal. Some luxury dealers will automatically put new tires on in some situations but they probably wouldn't be the ones you would want.

If you were to get #2, again they probably would be the cheapest possible pads.

I'd concern yourself with just negotiation on getting the best price possible. Know what you will need to do going in money wise on tires and brakes or anything else.

Drive the car.
Ask for a ridiculous low price. Tell them I only want to spend $low
They will laugh at you. Don't worry about it.
Don't tell them you have money to put down until later in the process.
Let them run your credit so they know you can buy the car.
Ask to drive the car some more.
Be undecided. Point out everything you can find negative about the car.
Too many negatives? Walk away.
If it is the car you want negotiate the total price of the car.
Do you have a trade in? If so now is the time to tell them you'd like to trade it in.
The trade in value they are willing to give you will be lower if you negotiated a great price on the new car.
So now we are at say $25000 for the new car and $8000 in trade for the old car
So your financing $17000 plus lic title and reg. Say $17500 total financed. Now throw your down payment at them. $5000 or what ever you have. Now financing $12500

Obviously you have to insert your numbers in there but the process will work at most dealerships to help you get the best value.

Keep in mind the dealership has to and deserves to make some money and so does your salesperson but it is a negotiation and you should fight for the best possible price.
Be respectful but push for honesty about what you are buying and all the numbers.

The secret is to ensure that YOU are in control of the negotation. Don't let the salesman take control or you'll get ripped off. Always negotiate the selling price of the car and not the monthly payments. Negotiate the trade-in value of your car AFTER you settle on a price for the Evo. Dealers will sometimes give you a good deal on the car if they think they can rip you off on your trade-in
I got an extra 3 grand on my trade in attempting to walk away from a deal on a 2012 GSR. Told them the deal was off around noon and got a call back at 5:45...

I got my 2010 pb gsr with the sss pkg for 1400 off last year. All you can do is try. Try to hide your eagerness to buy although on the test drive u wont help being able to crack a smile. Also let them know you are willing to walk away.I was at my 3rd dealer before i made a purchase

I am DEFINATELY willing to walk away. My original ballpark for buying a car is November. I'm putting $$ away each month, selling my motorcycle, cashing in some stock (I do day trading on the side), and have a friend who is willing to buy my Hyundai from me. I just decided to start looking now because, if a good deal comes along I will jump on it.
One thing I am not sure about is that I live in Phx, AZ and most all the Evos for sale are other places. Sometimes I think this could be an advantage because they may feel like they have to make me a sweeter deal (which I think they do) to justify me flying out to pick up the car and drive it back. Being out-of-state and trying to buy a car is a hassle because I don't get a chance to test drive or REALLY see the car until I'm out there. Once I do have a car picked out, I'll be sure to have them take it to a tuner shop or Mitsu dealership (I'll pay for the inspection) and have it looked over to let me know what shape many of the key components are in.
I see SOOO many Evos I could buy but they are ALL on the D@mn east coast. lol

I live in Florida and I actually purchased mine in Texas. I definitely kept my options open and was willing to purchase out of state. The thing is I ended up having to pay shipping which was 400 and the car was there in 2 days. Compared to all the other quotes I received that was an awesome price.I did lots of research and that was probably one of the scariest parts was trusting someone i didnt know to bring my car to me since most of the car haulers are reallh small companies that deal with a broker.as far as the test drive goes im a truck driver so it was a little easier for me to swing by different places, look, and drive the car. If they know u are serious about buying u might be able to get them to cover a plane ticket for u

How did you get the car inspected before you bought it? I've heard there are services that will send a rep to a dealership and inspect any car for you but I've heard mixed reviews on how good they are. I don't blame you for being nervous. Its A LOT of money to buy a car and trusting someone that you don't really know to deliver your car would make lots of people nervous.

I called this place and the dealership is willing to come down a total of $500 (guy on the phone was a D**K ! ! ) brining the total sticker prices to $23,500. Car is a 2008 Wicked White Lancer GSR with 46,879 miles and located in Illinois.
I'm on the fence about this since I would have to do everything over the phone/internet until its time to fly out and close the deal. Then, I would get the car shipped to AZ.
I actually found my DREAM lancer in Boulder, Co. My wife's bro lives out there so he could go see it, test drive it, makes sure it gets to mechanic to check it out, etc. Only problem is prior owner painting f**king FLAMES on it.
Car I am thinking about getting can be seen here: http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/mit...i&distance=any

What do YOU guys think? Good deal?

Lando

For the 23500, I personally wouldn't take that deal because the evo is the base model. If it was the sss version I would say it's not a bad deal.

I would honestly look into contacting Sam aka "smash" at Huntington beach Mitsubishi in CA. They got a ton of used and new evos. He deals with out of state buyers all the time. I bought my gsr sss brand new from him for 32,500. They are legit there.

Evo4Emperor,

Done & Done. Thanks A LOT for the info. I will contact him right away and let him know what I'm in the market for. As I said, my timeframe for getting a new car is November so hopefully something will become available between now and then.
Its already getting frustrating because I've been calling a few dealerships (IL, TX, CA, CO, etc) and some of the people have NO clue about the Evo and how they are treated by most owners or many of the cars have ALL kinds of crazy mods done to them (most likely voiding the warranty).

yeah a ton of dealerships are terrible knowing anything about evos. Sam "smash" is completely the opposite. Hunington beach mitsubishi is part of a group of mitsu dealerships in SoCal that offer evo's for wayyy less than many other dealerships. I drove almost 4 hours just to get my evo. They are also mod friendly and even sell mods themselves.

hes on the forums, his username is socalmitsu.com check em out under the vendor forums!
good luck bro!

good luck bro!

I contacted them about an Evo for sale and the negotiation process has BEGUN ! ! ! ! The car is an 08 GSR with 57K on it. Since the car is close to 60K and the 60K service, I'm out of state and willing to fly/drive to pick it up, and its the base model, I told the guy on the phone to talk to the sales manager and come down on the price to make it worth it for me.
He said ALL their cars go thru the 115 point (or however many points it is) inspection and all the key parts (brakes etc) must be at 50% or better or they replace them. Should I take this for sure or still plan on having the car inspected by a independent mechanic. If car is still running on stock clutch, that concerns me. Maybe they will be able to provide me with a list of everything they found/replaced on the car when it was traded in.
