Dude, literally everything will "void" your "warranty". You can get a drop-in filter, tint, and that's about it. Some dealers will allow you to do a Catback or an intake. Just ask the dealer that you would be going to.

The good thing about the Cobb AP tho, is that you can unmarry it from the car before you go and it's fine.

If warranty is a big concern then keep your car stock and don't do anything beyond a drop-in air filter. There is no set rule as to what will or will not void your warranty; it all depends on the dealer, regional rep, and what you're trying to get covered under warranty. Intakes and catback exhausts are generally safe for warranty purposes though.

Everyone needs to read the Magnusson-Moss Act. There's actually no way for a manufacturer to totally void a warranty. They can deny coverage of a claim, but that's it. And they can only deny coverage if your mod is a direct contributing factor to the damage/failure. So if you put coilovers on the car, good luck getting a control arm bushing warrantied. If you install an intake and your fuel pump goes out, they'd have to cover that. Or if you put a big brake kit on the car and then spin a rod, they'd have to cover that.

Yeah all I know is that the dealership said they would keep coverage on any thing I brought in for them to install. When I got it I was telling them I want a cat back and intake. They said sure just bring it here to install and we keep warranty, buy it where ever but you just have to bring it to us. I wasn't worried about that, just about the tune since they wouldn't be doing that. What exactly would a tune even void?

a cold air intake is definetly beneficial for an evo X- as there are pretty extensive temp compensations built into the ECU-

granted you have to be conscious of water ingestion etc...

but the cool air supply is definetly beneficial on the X!

If you are really worried about a tune, you can get a protune on an AP and then unmarry it if you need to take it in to the dealer.

I understand that.. But, replacing an fuel pump isn't the same as a blown engine, which a dealer would or could attempt to deny a warranty because of an intake. When I think about warranties I worry about engine, tranny, t-case, or diff. Any of that stuff might get denied because of any power mods and gets expensive. That's why I said to only buy mods if you can "comfortably" afford it. If yours a car to make it hit 100 whp over stock, it could be your fault that the engine goes. It's that annoying old saying, "You've gotta pay to play."

Make sure you get this in writing. I'm dead serious. They will laugh at you if something happens and you bring up something a salesman told you. Make sure and get it in writing by the service manager or someone like that before you mod.

A tune would most likely void the ECU, engine, and maybe some other stuff..

A short ram intake is just a hot air intake. AMS does make the full cold air intake that relocates the filter to the fender but it would only fit GSRs and not MRs due to their tranny cooler I think. Snakes(another member on this forum) dynoed both the short ram and full cold air(You can use the ams kit as both short ram or CAI) and ge got about 7whp gain on the full cold air intake. So not massive gains but it might make a difference. The sound of my ams cai is just amazing.

EDIT: keep in mind that some intakes change the maf housing diameter like the ams kit. So you would need a tune as soon as you install it.

Yeah, you don't want a hot air intake lol.

I live in CA and we have lots of jerk cops, so I'm leaning towards CARB or a drop in.

The truth is once you get a custom tune, the intake is really preference. I've searched this forum and another and it's really up to what you like in a brand & also the sound. If you want that loud vacuum noise lol.

If I didn't live in CA, I would go AMS but that's just because I like them (preference & they're BEAST).

Personally, I don't buy the AccessPort shxt... Every car is unique and for better performance and reliability/safty, I'd rather to have shop-tune, yes, every time you have new part on.
Good luck =)
